Global Village Healthcare Initiative for Africa (GHIV Africa) is a Non-governmental, Non-for profit humanitarian/Developmental organization which started in 2014. We deliver assistance and protection to affected populations before, during and after crisis situations. GHIV Africa was founded to mitigate the health deficit in Africa and to provide all forms of assistance leading to improved quality of life. The organization is equally poised to support the delivery of healthcare services at the doorsteps of every African village by bridging the gap between primary health care delivery and tertiary health care services through a robust referral system. We provide aid to the most vulnerable population regardless of their religion, race, gender and or political affiliation. Our decisions as an organization are not based on political, economic or religious interest but solely on needs of the affected population.

Position Overview:

  • The AAP and Communication Assistant play a vital role in ensuring that the GHIV AFRCA AAP framework is implemented with a strong focus on Accountability to Affected People (AAP) and effective communication. The AAP and Communication Assistant will work closely with program teams, stakeholders, and communities to facilitate meaningful engagement, promote transparency, and ensure effective communication throughout the program cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

Participation

  • Conduct secondary data reviews, lessons learned, and community consultations to understand community perspectives and priorities.
  • Support community-led initiatives and engagement processes.
  • Ensure representation and inclusion of vulnerable communities.
  • Facilitate capacity-building and awareness sessions for effective participation.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Information and Communication

  • Develop strategies to promote participation and two-way communication.
  • Provide clear and accessible project information to beneficiaries.
  • Engage stakeholders through joint monitoring efforts.
  • Utilize various communication channels to ensure information accessibility.
  • Facilitate culturally sensitive communication and engage community influencers.

Feedback & Complaints Mechanism

  • Establish clear and accessible feedback and complaints mechanisms.
  • Train staff and volunteers on handling feedback and complaints.
  • Ensure prompt and transparent responses to feedback.
  • Analyze feedback data for continuous improvement.
  • Engage in awareness campaigns to educate beneficiaries about the mechanism.

Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA)

  • Establish safeguarding focal points and reporting mechanisms.
  • Empower beneficiaries to report incidents of PSEA.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of PSEA measures.

Strengthening Local Capacity

  • Conduct needs assessments and capacity mapping exercises.
  • Provide training and capacity-building support to local actors.
  • Empower local leadership and decision-making.
  • Foster sustainability through contextualized approaches.
  • Facilitate resource mobilization and acknowledge the contributions of local actors.

Evidence-based Advocacy and Decision-Making

  • Collect and analyse data to understand affected populations' needs and concerns.
  • Engage with communities to gather evidence for advocacy efforts.
  • Disseminate research findings to stakeholders.
  • Utilize technology for data collection and analysis.
  • Monitor the impact of evidence-based advocacy initiatives.

Coordination and Partnership

  • Establish and participate in coordination mechanisms at various levels.
  • Build partnerships with stakeholders to enhance program delivery.
  • Share information and resources to avoid duplication of efforts.
  • Strengthen local capacity through effective coordination.
  • Monitor and evaluate coordination efforts for effectiveness.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A minimum of HND, BSc or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., social sciences, development studies, communication).
  • Prior experience (1-3 years) in AAP, communication, or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of AAP principles and community engagement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and use of technology.
  • Experience using kobo toolbox and data analysis and visualization is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with protection from sexual exploitation and abuse principles.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English (Hausa and Kanuri added advantage).
  • Carry out community engagement with stakeholders and report on a quarterly basis.
  • To carry out any other related duties assigned to.
