We're helping to improve health systems in northern Nigeria to delivery maternal, newborn, and child health services, including the revival of routine immunization.

ROLE PURPOSE AND DESCRIPTION: 

  • Save the Children with Global Partnership for Education (GPE) fund is implementing education, protection, and WASH interventions to address the needs of refugees and host communities in 5 refugees hosting states in Nigeria. This therefore requires coordinated advocacy and communication at the local government and community levels. 
  • The Advocacy and Communication Assistant will provide support specifically to the implementation of Cameroonian Refugee program in Benue and Adamawa. 
  • The Job holder will support the GPE Project team to develop quality and visually appealing communication materials needed to amplify the advocacy and campaigns of the implementation of the GPE refugee project. 
  • The job holder will support the project team to gather contents in form of photos, case studies and success stories as needed. 
  • S/he will support in leading advocacy and campaign related engagements at both local government and community levels. 
  • S/he will support the project team to conduct safe back to school campaign at the community levels.
  • S/he will support community level dialogue and engagements.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 

Advocacy, Campaign, Communication and Media project activities. 

  • Have good understanding of the ACCM strategy and have ability to implement. 
  • Support all advocacy and campaign related engagements and the implementation of ACCM Strategy. 
  • Support the Media and Communications team with information to produce products for social media platforms and digital media.
  • Support Media and Comms team to review all IEC and visibility materials to be in line with donor and SCI branding guidelines before they are sent for approval at the CO. 
  • Support in writing case studies or reports, with infographics and layout formatting to SCI brand standards. 
  • Support the mainstreaming of SCI Girl education campaign and Generation Hope campaign into project/programme implementations.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as required by the Line Manager, Advocacy and Communication Officer and ACCM CO team.

People Management and Leadership:

  • Have regular meetings with appropriate authorities at local government and community levels on the project.
  • Support in engaging relevant authorities in the implementation of project through regular consultation and joint visits.
  • Support team members to plan and carry out feedback meetings with authorities and beneficiaries.
  • Support to Coordinate the planning and implementation of observation key global moments at the LGA and community levels.

Communication and Representation:

  • Represent SCI at local and community levels and work with local authorities, partners as required, mainly in events relating to the project.
  • With support from ACCM at CO, communicate advocacy messages to local government and community leaders and organizations.
  • Support to coordinate and provide updates and reports to CO on the activities of Advocacy and Communication in the Field Office.
  • Develop and maintain a professional network with government, community, and religious leaders, media partners and CSOs.
  • Support in the dissemination of important information and messages related to the project.
  • Contribute to weekly and monthly advocacy meetings to keep the entire ACCM family informed of the status of implementation.
  • Contribute to internal and external communication with project/field specific input that feeds into regional and donor reports.

Safeguarding

  • Ensure that project delivery complies to the highest safeguarding standards in line with Save the Children’s policy 
  • Work with the project safeguarding officer to ensure that all community mobilization and advocacy activities,  have a safeguarding risk assessment and mitigation measures in place 
  • Adhere to the Do no Harm principles in engagement wit stakeholders and across the entire steps within the Programme Management Cycle.

Others:

  • Other ad hoc tasks as requested by line manager, Field Manager or ACCM CO team.

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS

  • Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline or relevant qualification
  • Minimum of one year work experience in Advocacy and communication with knowledge of refugee and or humanitarian response.
  • Fluency in spoken English Language and Pidgin English and Hausa language is an advantage.
  • Ability to review documents, briefs, and write good report. 
  • Good computer skills required, especially the ability to work comfortably in the MS office package.
  • Ability to work in partnership with government, community, media, and partners. 
  • Very good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Good knowledge of i SCI brand and visibility policies and guidelines desired.
  • Comply with the requirements of Save the Children’s commitment to protecting children in accordance with the Safeguarding Policy.

Administrative & General Skills:

  • The post holder will possess good analytical skill and ability to with the local community effectively and convincingly to a diverse audience at local and community levels.

Desirable:

  • Experience in advocacy techniques and influencing tactics.
  • Prior work experience in advocacy and communication with good knowledge of media engagement.
  • Passion for photography and audio-visual editing.
