GIVO is a circular economy company, leveraging the use of technology to collect, process and upcycle plastic waste into valuable goods. We are a network of tech-enabled recycling centers with a manufacturing arm, where we make consumer and industrial products out of recyclables. Our vision is to be the leading enabler of circular economies in Africa, through tech-enabled waste management and recycling solutions. To date, we have processed over 6 tons of recyclables and produced over 20,000 units of consumer/industrial goods (such as shredded plastic flakes, eco-panels, face shields).
Job Summary
- As a Backend Engineer at GIVO Africa, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing backend systems, ensuring seamless integration with our cloud architecture, and maintaining SQL databases.
- This role is ideal for a problem-solver who’s passionate about using technology to make a positive environmental impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance backend services and APIs using C#.
- Manage and optimize SQL databases, ensuring data integrity, performance, and security.
- Utilize Azure Cloud Architecture to scale and improve system reliability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues swiftly to maintain uptime and performance.
- Collaborate with front-end developers, data engineers, and product teams to ensure seamless integration and alignment with business goals.
- Implement best practices for code quality, scalability, and security.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- B.Sc Degree in a relevant discipline
- 2+ years of experience in backend development, with a strong focus on C#.
- Relevant certifications will be a plus
- Proficiency with SQL databases, including management and optimization.
- Expertise in Azure Cloud Architecture, with a track record of deploying and managing applications in the Azure ecosystem.
- Strong analytical skills and an ability to work with complex systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive, self-driven approach.
- Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Familiarity with Python is a plus.
- Experience in recycling, sustainability, or environmental impact sectors.
