Job Objective / Summary
- The Database Administration Officer is responsible for managing and maintaining the bank’s database systems to ensure data integrity, security, availability, and optimal performance.
- This role supports the design, implementation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of databases, ensuring they meet business and regulatory requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of database management systems (DBMS).
- Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with regulatory and internal policies.
- Monitor database performance and implement optimization strategies.
- Perform regular database backups and support disaster recovery planning.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues to ensure system availability.
- Support database development, including query optimization and indexing.
- Manage user access controls and permissions for database security.
- Document database structures, policies, and procedures for audit and operational efficiency.
Key Performance Indicators
- Database uptime and reliability.
- Efficiency in resolving database-related incidents.
- Compliance with security and regulatory requirements.
- Performance optimization of database queries.
- Accuracy and completeness of database documentation.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Education: A good Bachelor’s Degree / HND, preferably in Computer Sciences/IT or related discipline, plus professional banking certification (CIBN); MBA and/or other relevant postgraduate or professional qualification will be added advantage.
Professional Body Membership/Certification(s):
- Membership in relevant professional bodies such as the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) is an advantage.
- Certifications in database management (e.g., Oracle Certified Associate (OCA), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or AWS Database Specialty) are preferred.
Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in database administration, preferably in a financial institution.
- Experience with relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
- Experience with database backup and recovery procedures.
- Experience with database security and access control.
- Experience with cloud-based database solutions like AWS RDS, or Azure SQL.
Knowledge:
- Proficiency in SQL and database management systems such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
- Strong understanding of database security, backup, and recovery strategies.
- Ability to optimize database performance and troubleshoot issues.
- Good knowledge of scripting for automation and database administration.
