Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. With 151 member states, a further 12 states holding observer status and offices in over 100 countries, IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants. IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people. The IOM Constitution recognizes the link between migration and economic, social and cultural development, as well as to the right of freedom of movement. IOM works in the four broad areas of migration management: Migration and development Facilitating migration Regulating migration Forced migration. IOM activities that cut across these areas include the promotion of international migration law, policy debate and guidance, protection of migrants' rights, migration health and the gender dimension of migration. IOM Nigeria commenced activities in 2001 and focused its interventions on counter trafficking activities, migration issues, return and reintegration of stranded migrants especially to Liberia, and Voluntary Returns from abroad.

Job Description

  • Applications are welcome from internal and external candidates. For all IOM vacancies, applications from qualified and eligible first-tier candidates are considered before those of qualified and eligible second-tier candidates in the selection process. For the purpose of this vacancy, internal candidates are considered first-tier candidates.

Context

  • Under the overall and direct supervision of the DTM Programme Officer, and in close coordination with the DTM Senior Programme Associate, the successful candidate will be accountable and responsible, including but not limited to, for the production and dissemination of information on the displacement activities, data sharing, and support within Nigeria.

Responsibilities

  • Support the DTM data collection/assessments and the maintenance of the DTM database so that reliable/proper data is extracted from the existing databases.
  • Support the program officer in the preparation of regular DTM reports and other qualitative/quantitative reports, maps, infographics, etc.
  • Provide support to the enumerators regarding the DTM data collection process.
  • Maintain data confidentiality per IOM's data protection guidelines while strengthening collaboration between departments and projects.
  • Assist in filing systems improvement.
  • Data entry when necessary.
  • Assisting with workshops and training.
  • Perform any other related task as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • A Diploma Degree with four years of relevant experience in ICT, Computer Science, Statistics, Database, Business Administration, or any related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in ICT, Computer Science, Statistics, Database, Business Administration, or any related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in a related field, such as ICT, Computer Science, Statistics, Database, Business Administration, or any preferred related field.
  • Previous work experience with an International Organization or NGOs dealing with refugees would be a strong advantage.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and internet applications, Microsoft Outlook, Access, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Advanced knowledge of mobile data collection, especially ODK and KOBO.
  • Experience in using software programs such as Excel, STATA, SPSS, and SAS for data analysis.
  • Basic knowledge of GIS tools and relational databases (e.g., SQL Server-Spatial and ArcGIS).

  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal relationship skills
  • Hardworking, good team player, dedicated, and able to monitor and follow up on pending matters.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure with minimum supervision.

Languages

  • Required: For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written).
  • Desirable: Working knowledge of the local languages in the Northeast, north-west, north-central, or Nigeria.
  • IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish. Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
