Job Objective/Summary:
The Head of Unit, Application Development, is responsible for leading the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of the bank’s software applications. This role ensures the delivery of secure, scalable, and efficient banking applications that enhance operational efficiency and customer experience while aligning with the bank’s digital transformation strategy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of banking applications and software solutions.
- Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance.
- Ensure applications are secure, scalable, and compliant with regulatory and cybersecurity standards.
- Collaborate with business units to identify system requirements and translate them into functional applications.
- Implement Agile and DevOps best practices to enhance development efficiency and system reliability.
- Monitor and optimize application performance, identifying areas for improvement.
- Manage integration between core banking systems, third-party APIs, and digital platforms.
- Lead and mentor the application development team, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in application development, software engineering, or IT leadership roles, preferably within the financial sector.
- Membership in relevant professional bodies such as the Nigerian Computer Society (NCS) is an advantage.
- Certifications in software development and project management (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer, AWS Certified Developer, Oracle Certified Java Developer, PMP, Agile Scrum Master) are preferred.
- Strong expertise in programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, or JavaScript.
- Proficiency in software development frameworks, APIs, and cloud-based platforms.
- Experience in Agile development methodologies and DevOps practices.
