Job Summary
- The Network & Security Associate Engineer will be a part of a highly competent delivery team, responsible for building and supporting, typically datacentre-based network and security infrastructure solutions; delivering service level agreements to ensure the continued operation of those solutions. Confident in at least two technology concepts, such as firewalls, routers, switches, load-balancers, etc, and is able to operate those technologies to an operational standard. Possesses or able to achieve at least one professional qualification in a relevant technology or vendor.
Responsibilities
Engineering
- Participates in proofs of concepts. Manages towards project timelines, executing on deliverables in partnership with internal networking and infrastructure teams
- Provides technical status reports to management
- Responsible for anticipating technical roadblocks and escalating issues
- Responsible for managing select technical aspects of implementation
- Executes on the implementation of new solutions for customers, both internal and external to the organization
Operations
- Triages events and tickets for network and security operations incidents.
- Follows documented SLAs, guidelines and policies to resolve issues, with further guidance from senior team members as needed
- Works towards increasing level of responsibility for network and security operations
- Operates and troubleshoots next-generation firewalls, routers, switches, load-balancers, security device management systems, intrusion detection/prevention (IDS/IPS) and DDoS mitigation systems, for both internal and external customers
- Eventual participation in on-call rotation, when sufficient levels of knowledge and skill have been achieved
- Work in line with change control and configuration management processes
Incident Response
- Manages day-to-day network and security incident response, during business hours
- Investigates, researches and analyzes network and security incidents as they are escalated or reported by internal or external customers
- Uses established procedures for remediation of incidents, escalating as needed for additional guidance
- Eventual participation in on-call rotation, when sufficient levels of knowledge and skill have been achieved.
Innovations
- Contribute to improve processes & procedures to achieve optimum efficiencies and service quality
- Contribute to infrastructure performance and capacity tuning techniques delivering optimized performance.
Policy & Compliance
- Responsible for following process to maintain security policies, for internal and external customers
- Triages and resolves simple customer security inquiries per documented guidelines.
Service Delivery
- Performs fulfillment for quote to cash transactional tickets for all network and security products (Firewalls, Routers, Switches, ECX Enablement, etc.)
- Work in line with change control, problem and configuration management processes
- Contribute to the successful delivery of departmental projects.
