Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for alerting to editorial and legal standards issues.
  • Responsible for projecting and determining cost information for coverage.
  • Facilitating clear guidance and feedback to the field (Correspondents, Field Producers, Technical Crews).
  • Ensure clear lines of communication are effectively maintained between key stakeholders to amplify and present key stories to their maximum potential.
  • To ensure NC TV editorial and legal standards are upheld.
  • To facilitate the news division operating within budget.
  • Safety: Oversight of team safety on deployment in step with the Directors of Coverage, Sr. Director of Futures and Directors of Security.
  • Ensure team safety is always the first consideration and at the heart of deployment decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Distinctiveness: To find ways to make NC TV coverage stand out from our competitors.
  • Collaboration: Coordinating closely and building solid relationships across the
  • News Croup - digital/social supervising editors, broadcast EPs, the regional, international and US bureaus - ensuring their coverage needs are met and exceeded.
  • Breaking news: Responding quickly and proactively to priorities across the News Group.
  • Shoring up deployments, editorial and logistics in the aftermath of breaking news in step with the Executive Producer, Head of Technical and Head of Digital.
  • Identify key storylines and NC TV moments, and best showcase them across the platforms.
  • To ensure a robust operation is in place in the immediate aftermath of a breaking news event that can execute effectively across all platforms.
  • Planned projects: Ensuring coverage plans are well defined and full details are outlined in a documented fashion.
  • Responsible for ensuring our best coverage is given the maximum exposure on all platforms.

Editorial authority:

  • Take ownership of the editorial direction of the planning process, identifying opportunities to break news, create original and distinctive content, and thus generate clear cross-platform coverage priorities.
  • This will include content for both television and digital platforms.

Competitiveness:

  • Ensure NC TV is always ahead of the editorial curve and maintains its position as a market leader in global cross-platform news coverage.

Showcasing:

  • To work with the platforms to best amplify NC TV exclusives, NC TV moments and key stories of our time.
  • This position will be a key communicator and liaison with NC TV Domestic and programming.

Cross-platform planning:

  • Planning coverage of key themes, scheduled news events and breaking news.
  • Working in step with the expectations of the entire News Group: digital, social and broadcast and ensuring clear prioritisation to meet all the varying platform needs.

Logistical support:

  • Ensuring that the things that make us able to react quickly (visas, logistics, accreditations) are all up to date.
  • Ensure seamless and compelling coverage across all NC TV platforms with no logistical impediments to fast reactions of teams to breaking news and events.

Person Specification

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism or a related field preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and proven track record in cross-platform newsgathering and editorial with a minimum of 7 years' experience.
  • Digital platform knowledge - Broad awareness of NC TV's digital and social platforms and priorities - what material works on each and how they perform in the competitive landscape.
  • Building relationships - working with multiple stakeholders, able to navigate the complex, different arms of NC TV and build a network of relationships to ensure smooth cross-platform planning and communications and thereby finding opportunities to showcase international gatherings.
  • Working under pressure - able to thrive in a pressured, breaking news environment.
  • Able to respond to changes in the editorial agenda and respond to situations on the ground for our field teams.
  • Exceptionally organised with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proven experience in editorial/legal standards and practices.
  • Post-production and writing skills for television and digital media are required.
