Role Description
- The Public Relations Specialist will lead strategic communications and media engagement to build, maintain, and amplify the company’s reputation.
- You will own the thought leadership pipeline, manage external visibility for our executives, create and disseminate press releases, manage media relations, media buying, develop and execute strategic communication plans, and enhance the public image of the company.
- Day-to-day tasks include writing press releases, handling media inquiries, securing earned media coverage, and collaborating with various departments to ensure consistent messaging and strengthen our positioning in key fintech conversations locally and globally.
- This role is perfect for a high-performing PR professional with a proven track record in storytelling, media engagement, event coordination, industry partnerships, and executive visibility.
- This is a full-time hybrid role based in Lagos, with some work-from-home flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
Media Relations & Coverage
- Cultivate strong relationships with local and international fintech, tech, and business media.
- Secure high-impact features, interviews, op-eds, and podcast slots for the brand and its leadership in Tier-1 outlets across Africa and global fintech ecosystems.
- Craft and distribute compelling press releases, media kits, and responses aligned with brand messaging. Proactively monitor the media landscape to identify timely PR opportunities and mitigate potential issues.
Thought Leadership & Executive Visibility
- Develop a robust calendar of thought leadership content featuring our executives and internal experts across blogs, LinkedIn, and relevant media platforms.
- Ghostwrite and manage LinkedIn content for C-level executives on emerging trends and timely industry commentary.
- Host and coordinate quarterly thought leadership events: webinars, fireside chats, panels etc., featuring both internal leaders and external experts.
- Strategic Content & SEO
- Collaborate with internal teams and industry experts to create educational content that promotes brand expertise.
- Produce weekly content (articles, blog posts, or commentary) that enhances brand credibility and equity. Monitor industry news and trends to identify opportunities for timely, relevant commentary.
- Collaborate with internal teams and industry partners to produce content that drives backlinks and organic citations from reputable sites/blogs.
- Contribute to SEO-driven PR strategies by earning high-quality mentions in authoritative fintech publications.
Events & Campaign Support
- Lead communications strategy for executive speaking engagements, industry events, and product or initiative launches.
- Manage event-related messaging, press coverage, media invites, and post-event amplification across owned and earned channels.
Reporting & Analysis
- Track and analyze performance of PR campaigns, executive visibility efforts, media pickups, and backlink acquisition.
- Share monthly insights on media sentiment, content engagement, and thought leadership traction.
Qualifications
- Have 5 or more years of specialised experience in Public Relations.
- Press Releases and Media Relations skills
- Public Relations, Story Telling and Communication skills
- Experience in Strategic Communications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Proficiency in using PR software and tools
- Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or related field
- Experience in financial technology or related industries is a plus
