The West African Centre for Public Health and Development (WACPHD) is a non-governmental organization working on Improving health equity through sustained research, program delivery, technical assistance, and education and is providing technical support for the ACE project. To effectively reduce HIV, including HIV/TB co-infection, as well as institutionalize health system reforms, the United States Government (USG), through the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), supports the Government of Nigeria (GON) to implement interventions, across the HIV/AIDS care continuum and strengthen the health system to deliver high-quality services. As part of the effort in this regard, the USAID/Nigeria office recently engaged a consortium to implement the Achieving HIV Epidemic Control in the several State of Nigeria. WACPHD, as part of the Consortium, will be implementing the Operations/ Implementation Research component of the ACE grant in lot 6-comprising Lagos, Edo and Bayelsa.

Job Description

  • WACPHD is seeking a qualified Research Specialist to support a project assessing health systems and family planning supplies in Nigeria (Kano, Kaduna, and Lagos).
  • This project is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and focuses on enhancing family planning initiatives in these regions.

Job Purpose / Job Objective

  • The primary responsibility of this position will be to lead conducting of strategic and deep dive data analysis using various primary and secondary data including facility mapping, routine facility-based data, program monitoring and survey data to identify programmatic gaps to help evidence-informed strategic insights to strengthen facility interventions.

Roles and Responsibilities

Key Deliverables Expected from the Job Role:

  • Lead the data analysis by triangulating facility assessment and other available data sources (facility based routine data, periodic assessments, survey data, etc.) to identify key programmatic gaps.
  • Monitor and ensure high quality data through field visits to facility, community and health system assessments
  • Contribute to the designing of primary study designs and tools.
  • Ensure successful implementation of primary research to align the priorities of the organization and the government.
  • Develop and well-defined analytical plans for the studies implemented.
  • Conducted statistical analysis to generate factsheets and tables as per the analysis plan.
  • Preparation of presentations of key findings to disseminate in different platforms.
  • Develop evidence into knowledge products including flyers, briefs and reports for publication and dissemination.
  • Prepare repository of all routine and periodic data related to health, particularly focusing on facility-level service monitoring data.
  • Any other task assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications:

  • PhD in Statistics / Demography / Public Health / Health Management or equivalent
  • Candidates with additional training in data management/analysis will be given preference.

Essential experience:

  • At least 7-10 years of experience in analysing large survey data and Programmatic M&E, preferably in public health or development sector
  • Demonstrated management of program/facility based/government data system and liaison with government
  • Proficiency in advanced statistical methods
  • Expertise in data analysis using STATA and able to conduct GIS based analysis using Q-GIS and MS Excel advanced analysis
  • Ability to conceptualize analyses framework using both survey and program data.
