The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) was established through an Act of Parliament in 1960. This Act depicts that the NRCS is recognized by the Federal Government of Nigeria as a community based Voluntary Aid Society, auxiliary to and complementing the public authorities in the area of humanitarian interventions. The NRCS was recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in 1961 and admitted by the International Federation of the Red Cross Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) as the 86th National Society in 1961.
JOB PURPOSE
- Under the supervision of the Branch Secretary, with technical support of Head of PMER and Communication, the Branch Communications and PMEAL will be responsible for ensuring that the Branch and Divisions have high visibility and promotes the RCRC Movement Fundamental Principles. The position is also responsible to ensure effective planning, monitoring and reporting on the activities being implemented by the Branch.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Branch Communications and PMEAL Officer has the following responsibilities:
- Design and develop the Branch plan for communication, sensitization and awareness sessions/activities
- In liaison with program focal persons, clearly document, visually and short stories on activities implemented at the Branch
- Disseminate the NRCS communications policy and provide guidelines at the Branch level regarding engagement with stakeholders and media
- Assist the Branch Secretary in developing relevant and timely communication and engagement with media
- Working with PMEAL and Communication Heads, establish a functional community Engagement and Accountability framework, with a clear complaints and feedback mechanism
- Coordinate and implement regular dissemination activities with volunteers, communities and partners
- Ensure increased visibility for the Branch and manage Branch Social media accounts (where applicable)
- In consultation with the NHQ, develop and distribute key messages on NRCS to divisions and school units.
- Support the Branch Secretary in coordination and preparation of the Branch Annual Plan
- Conduct regular monitoring and updates on projects and upload the information on the existing PMEAL tools.
- Disseminate Operation Communication Program inclusion of International Humanitarian Law (IHL), the principles and values of the Movement.
- Ensure Communication focal points at Divisions level are equipped with Operation Communication Knowledge and has necessary tools and resource to implement.
- Establish good collaboration and cooperation with other Branch Colleagues.

- Abide by and work in accordance with the Red Cross Fundamental Principles and NRCS Statutes
- Show capacity to assist other members of staff and management, aptitude for maintaining cooperation and team spirit necessary to achieve the objectives of the National Society
- Perform any other work-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by Line Manager
Qualifications and Experience
- University Degree in public relations affairs, project management or relevant qualification
- Minimum of 3years’ experience in communications and journalism

- Good knowledge of the work of the Red Cross in Nigeria and the State
- Experience in Programme design and management
- Experience in Volunteer Management

- Knowledge of project management, emergency and public health management, humanitarian relief issues, trends and goals aimed at preventing and alleviating human suffering.
- Strong leadership, team building, conflict resolution and ability to deliver the society’s articulated vision for change.

- Demonstrated ability to influence and resolve differences and conflicts.
