The Nigerian Air Force Headquarters comprises of seven staff branches which formulate policies. The current seven staff branches are namely Policy and Plans, Training and Operations, Aircraft Engineering, Logistics and Communications, Administration, Standards and Evaluations and Air Secretary. Each Staff Branch is headed by a Branch Chief who is directly responsible to the Chief of Air Staff. The Branch Chiefs are assisted by several directors and staff officers. The office of the Chief of Air Staff is structured to include the Coordinator Project Implementation and Monitoring Team, Finance & Account, and the Nigerian Air Force Procurement and Plans. The Policy and Plans Branch is responsible for the formation, development and implementation of strategic policies and plans in the Nigerian Air Force. The Branch also prepares in close consultation with other air staff branches and commands, long-range plans and policies to support timely, accurate and efficient employment of air power under the direction of the Chief of Air Staff to meet NAF mission. The Training and Operations Branch is responsible for policies and directives for the daily operations of the NAF. The branch is also responsible for all training both on ground and aircrew duties. The Aircraft Engineering Branch is responsible for all matters relating to aircraft, armament design and maintenance in the NAF on the other hand, the Logistics and Communications Staff Branch is responsible for policies on provisioning, procurement and maintenance of all equipment and infrastructure in the NAF. The Administration Staff Branch is the hub in which most of NAF personnel and administrative matters revolve. It also sees to the running of the NAF in accordance with operational policy guidelines and requirements. The Standads and Evaluation Staff Branch is also charged with the responsibility of ensuring proper maintenance of standards in the NAF and to facilitate full-time research into specific areas of the Service with a view to avoiding waste in both human and material resources. The Air Secretary Branch is responsible for the establishment of guidelines for the recruitment, career management and maintenance of a balanced force structure for the NAF.

About the Enlistment

  • The Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) is a type of commission in the NAF which is open to both civilians and serving military personnel.
  • The Course provides the avenue for the enlistment of degree holders who are professionals in specified fields.
  • Training period for this type of commission is usually 6 months of intensive military training and successful candidates are commissioned into the rank of Flying Officer.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess a BSc/HND in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering/Science, Telecommunications Engineering, Data Telecommunication/Networks Engineering; M.Eng/MSc/B.Eng/BTech/BSc/HND in Radar Engineering; MSc/BSc/HND in Information Technology/Computer Science/Computer Engineering/Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Programming, Cyber Security, Networking, Artificial Intelligence, Hardware Maintenance.
  • BSc/BEng/PGD in Satellite Communication/Satellite Ground Station Engineering, Remote Sensing, Geographic Information System (GIS), Rocketry/Astronomy/Cosmology/Space Engineering.
  • BSc in Satellite Control Engineering; HND Satellite Image Analyst; BSc in Geography; BSc in Geo-Physics/Physics, Mathematics
  • BEng/BTech/BSc/HND BSc/HND/MSc in other discipline with proven competencies in Software Development languages such as PHP, Python, C++ and MERN Stack can also apply.
  • Possession of professional certificates such as CSDP, CSSLP, PHP Certification, CSS Zen Garden Certification, CCNA, CCNA Wireless, CCNP, CCNP Wireless, MCSE, Network+, Security+, CCNA Security, CCNP Security, CEH, ECSA, LPT, ECVP, ECSP, CPW, CPWA, CPWDV, CPWDS, CompTIA Security+, and other ICT proficiency are added advantage. Applicants to submit details of github accounts demonstrating competencies with successful projects.
  • Interested applicants must possess a minimum of Second Class Upper Division for holders of the first degree and Upper Credit for HND holders.

General Requirements:

  • Nationality: Applicants must be Nigerian citizen by origin or by birth.
  • Age: Applicants must be between the ages of 20 and 30 years by 27 September 2025 (25 - 40 years for Medical Consultants).  Please note the following:
    • Candidates born before 27 September 1995 are not eligible, while candidates born before 27 September 1985 are not eligible for medical consultants.
    • The Exercise is not for serving personnel desiring Branch Commission. Therefore, personnel above 30 years of age (born before 27 September 1995) are not to apply.
  • Height: Applicants must not be less than 1.66m tall for males and not less than 1.63m tall for females.
  • Medical Fitness: Applicants must be medically, physically and psychologically fit and must meet the Nigerian Air Force medical and employment standards.
  • Local Government Area Attestation Form: Applicants’ Local Government Area Attestation Form must be signed by a military officer from the same State as the applicants and not below the rank of Wing Commander in the Nigerian Air Force or equivalent in the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Navy or a Police Officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner and above, or Local Government Chairman/Secretary, Magistrate and Principals of Secondary Schools attended by applicants can also sign the Attestation Form. The Local Government Area Attestation Form must be accompanied by the passport photograph and photocopy of the signees’ Drivers Licence or National ID Card or International Passport.  The signee is also to authenticate behind the applicants’ passport photograph.
  • Presentation of Original Credentials: Successful applicants are required to submit their original credentials for scrutiny at the Selection Board Interview Exercise. The credentials include the following:
    • Two recent passport size photographs to be stamped and countersigned by officer of appropriate rank specified in Paragraph 6 (Bullet No. 6 from the top).
    • Original and photocopy of birth certificate or Declaration of Age.
    • Original and photocopy of educational/professional Certificates.
    • Original and photocopy of Indigeneship certificate from applicant’s Local Government/State of Origin.
    • Original and photocopy of Attestation to Good Character signed by Officer of appropriate rank as specified in Paragraph 6 (Bullet No. 6 from the top).

Academic / Professional Qualification and Requirements:

  • Interested applicants must possess a minimum of Second Class Upper Division for holders of the first degree and Upper Credit for HND holders. In addition, applicants must possess credit in English Language and Mathematics and degree course of study. Computer literacy will be an added advantage.
  • Applicants must possess NYSC Discharge Certificate or Letter of Exemption from NYSC at the time of applying for DSSC.
  • Applicants must possess certificates of full registration with their respective statutory professional bodies in Nigeria where applicable
