Avocats Sans Frontieres France (Lawyers Without Borders France or ASF France) is a French NGO established under the French law on organisations of July 1st, 1901. Avocats Sans Frontières France use all the means available and can bring complaints before domestic and international institutions, and before judicial and non-judicial institutions, it can also intervene before them, including through civil actions before competent jurisdictions.
Under the supervision of the Project Manager and Head of Office, the Communication Officer will carry out the following tasks for Avocats Sans Frontières France:
Strategic Communication and Visibility
- Ensure a high-level visibility and good branding of ASF France activities in the country and online
- Oversee the communication and visibility of the project to ensure adherence to donor’s visibility rules
- Develop specific and general communication strategies for its projects and related topics to ensure increased visibility for activities
- Implement the strategy in line with the project objectives
- Contribute to learning and sharing processes within the organization, to assist in the identification of relevant advocacy issues and policy directions regarding HR violations
Content Creation and Media Relations
- Develop, create and edit communication materials including press releases, articles, testimonies, newsletters, banners, posters and leaflets to highlight HR violations
- Coordinate media engagements for the organization
- Organization of International Days events: press conference, written press statements to be published on social media
- Propose and develop communication tools for raising awareness campaigns on specific human rights violations (radio jingles, radio shows, etc.)
- Prepare communication tools and reports for ASF activities
- Monitor and collect press articles on the project and other relevant issues related to HR violations
Digital Communication and Social Media Management
- Develop contents for ASF France website and manage its social media pages
- Develop social media engagements and campaigns
- Maintain and manage the mailing list and communication database for the organization
Event and Internal Communication Support
- Manage the communications aspect of trainings and meetings. Special participation will be requested for the design and organization of CSOs and Media trainings
- Organize meetings or other events as requested by the Head of Office
- Ensures the follow-up of communication actions and data collection
Project Implementation and Organizational Alignment
- Strictly follow the organizational work plan and individual activity plan and proactively contribute to the achievement of the strategic directions of the organization; ensuring adherence to quality and timeliness of deliverables
- Work closely with the communications officer at the headquarters of Avocats Sans Frontières France to align the communications strategy of the Nigeria office with that of the headquarters.
Required profile and qualification
Training / Education
- Minimum of a Bachelor\'s degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or related fields
- Additional certifications or trainings in human rights, international development or humanitarian communication.
Professional Experience
- At least 7 years of relevant experience in communications, public relations, media or advocacy
- Experience working in an international or multicultural environment
- Proven experience in managing and executing social media branding and campaigns (preferably in the social impact sector)
- Previous experience working with civil society organizations, donor-funded projects or human rights institutions
- Experience in planning and implementing media or public awareness campaigns
- Demonstrated experience writing press releases, articles and social media content
Skills and Competencies
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- Good understanding of Nigerian institutions, context and media landscape
- Proficiency in content creation and editing (text, photo, video)
- Social media management (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Familiarity with email tools (e.g. Mailchimp)
- Knowledge of graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines independently
- Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
- Demonstrated interest in human rights, civic space, or democratic governance

Conditions
- Local contract (full-time - 40 hours/week)
- Salary: between 1,900,000 and 2,100,000 naira gross per month, depending on experience and skills
- Contract duration: 7 months, renewable
- Start date: End of July 2025
- Location: Abuja, with assignments planned according to the training and activity schedule.
