Job Summary:
- The Communications Specialist will lead the development and implementation of short and long-term communication strategies and plans for the Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation (HSDF).
- S/he will support the Organization’s communication plan and external relations and create and drive a consistent brand and identity strategy.
- Finally, s/he will build internal capacity and system to ensure quality of written and visual presentation and communication.
What you will do on the job:
Corporate Communication
- Develop an overarching strategy for HSDF’s Internal and External Communication
- Lead the development and consistent updating of various communication outputs and processes including a corporate website, corporate function materials, and social media optimization.
- Develop and implement policies to guide communication processes and outputs across programs and locations.
- Plan and implement communications campaigns (including Mass Media engagement) to support reputation-building activities and business development with opinion leaders, donors, policymakers, and other key stakeholders.
- Working with team leads, supporting the development, design, and production of program M& E, and reporting documentation such as reports, briefs, and relevant business communication outputs.
Internal Communication
- Work in close collaboration with counterparts to ensure a coherent, consistent, and world-class quality and approach to optimal business and technical communication within HSDF.
- Contribute to preparedness actions, providing technical recommendations and guidance and monitoring the management of communications-specific risks.
- Supervise and maintain consistent development and upgrading of the HSDF Intranet and other communication and acculturation programs to foster the development, adoption, and reinforcement of the HSDF culture of knowledge, excellence, and service.
- Work with program and administrative teams in the design and delivery of training programs and support to facilitate staff development of business communication (oral, written, and visual) skills.
Knowledge management
- Working with team and program leads, design a schedule of publications and ensure monitoring and support to facilitate delivery of outlined publications in scheduled time.
- Contribute towards the quality assurance of internal and external reports and documentation including policy briefs, research publications, and articles.
- Working with team and program leads, identify and develop key operations research activities to aid the optimization of data and program activities for the publication of technical and peer-reviewed material for both internal and external audiences across platforms including the HSDF website.
- Establish an Internal and External Review board and system to facilitate the development and publication of peer-reviewed publications.
- Where necessary, organize technical writing training and support for nominated and interested staff seeking to/required to publish technical material at different levels (conference papers, journal publications, policy briefs, op-eds
What You will Need to have:
The following requirements are requisite for this position:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or equivalent.
- A Master’s degree in Development, Communications-related, or Public Health-related field is an added advantage.
- 7-9 years of cognate experience of which 2 must be in supervisory/middle management capacity Skills.
Knowledge:
- Excellent communications skills and personality
- Expert knowledge & and hands-on experience in corporate communications, knowledge management, content development, social media, SEO, internal communications, public relations, etc.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing communications strategies and campaigns
- Proven experience in leading a team, coordinating and/or providing support to cross-functional project teams
- Knowledge of website maintenance, social media, emerging media technologies, etc.
- Web design skills, including Microsoft Publisher and current Graphic design software.
- Basic knowledge of SEO.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to work as a leader and member of a team and possess initiative and good problem-solving skills.
- Creative thinking with the ability to identify innovative ways to communicate and engage the audience through a variety of avenues.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from team leads, staff, and the public.
- Having published articles and journals is an added advantage.
