General Description and Job Brief

The Community Mobilizer will play a key role in fostering relationships between DHCBI and target communities, ensuring effective engagement and participation in Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) programs. The Community Mobilizer will work closely with local leaders, beneficiaries, and project staff to facilitate program activities, communicate project goals, and encourage beneficiary involvement. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills, knowledge of community dynamics, and a commitment to empowering community members.

Responsibilities

The Community Mobilizer will:

  • Community Outreach and Sensitization: Conduct outreach activities to raise awareness of DHCBI’s FSL programs, including information sessions and community meetings to explain program objectives, beneficiary selection criteria, and planned activities.
  • Beneficiary Identification and Registration: Assist in the identification and registration of eligible beneficiaries for FSL programs, ensuring that selection criteria are clearly communicated and applied fairly.
  • Support to Livelihood Activities: Encourage community participation in livelihood activities such as agricultural and livestock on job training, hydroponics, income-generating activities, and capacity-building sessions. Engage with beneficiaries to help them understand the benefits of these activities and provide support throughout the process.
  • Coordination with Local Leaders: Collaborate with community leaders to gain support and alignment for project activities. Ensure that local stakeholders are informed and involved in program planning and implementation.
  • Organize Training and Awareness Sessions: Support the setup and coordination of training sessions on sustainable agricultural practices, including hydroponic systems, composting, and pest management. Ensure high attendance and engagement by community members.
  • Facilitate Feedback and Complaints Mechanism: Establish feedback channels, such as suggestion helpdesks, boxes or feedback sessions, to allow beneficiaries to voice concerns or suggestions. Ensure all feedback is documented and shared with relevant staff for prompt response.
  • Data Collection and Reporting: Assist in collecting field data related to beneficiary needs, participation rates, and program impacts. Submit regular reports to the FSL Manager, including observations from the field and any emerging issues.
  • Promotion of Hygiene Practices: Where relevant, work with the Program team to promote hygiene and sanitation practices, setting up handwashing facilities at homes and encouraging good hygiene behaviors.
  • Support to Cash-Based Transfers (CBT) and Distribution Activities: Help organize and monitor cash or in-kind distributions, ensuring smooth coordination and fair distribution to all beneficiaries.

Capacity Building and Community Empowerment

  • Encourage self-reliance among beneficiaries by promoting skills-building activities, including agricultural and financial literacy training.
  • Build trust within communities to ensure high levels of participation and foster a sense of ownership and responsibility for program success.

Gender Equality Commitments

  • Ensure that all program activities are accessible to all genders, promoting inclusive participation.
  • Respect and advocate for gender equality and equitable access to resources and opportunities in the community.

Requirements

  • Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Agriculture, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in community mobilization, outreach, or a related role in humanitarian or development settings.
  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills; knowledge of community engagement techniques; basic understanding of food security and livelihoods.
  • Additional: Familiarity with the local language and culture; experience working in rural or remote communities is an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Travel: Frequent travel (up to 80%) to project sites within the target area.
  • Working Hours: 8-hour workdays, with additional hours as needed for community meetings and events.
