MTN Nigeria is part of the MTN Group, Africa\'s leading cellular telecommunications company. On May 16, 2001, MTN became the first GSM network to make a call following the globally lauded Nigerian GSM auction conducted by the Nigerian Communications Commission earlier in the year. Thereafter the company launched full commercial operations beginning with Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. MTN paid $285m for one of four GSM licenses in Nigeria in January 2001. To date, in excess of US$1.8 billion has been invested building mobile telecommunications infrastructure in Nigeria. Since launch in August 2001, MTN has steadily deployed its services across Nigeria. It now provides services in 223 cities and towns, more than 10,000 villages and communities and a growing number of highways across the country, spanning the 36 states of the Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Many of these villages and communities are being connected to the world of telecommunications for the first time ever. The company\'s digital microwave transmission backbone, the 3,400 Kilometre Y\'elloBahn was commissioned by President Olusegun Obasanjo in January 2003 and is reputed to be the most extensive digital microwave transmission infrastructure in all of Africa. The Y\'elloBahn has significantly helped to enhance call quality on MTN network.

Mission:

  • Develop the best project models for effective project management for running core projects in MTN Nigeria as it relates to network implementation.
  • Maintain a sound working relationship between the project implementation team and all associated parties, within and outside MTN.

Description:

  • Track and monitor the project budget and ensure spending remains within limits, as well as minimize inventory costs, bordering basically on the impairment of fibre materials.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed project schedule and provide project support.
  • Evaluate project requirements and coordinate resources according to the project plan.
  • Stakeholder management and the ability to collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and clients effectively
  • Track project changes and update the site-based schedule as agreed with the Implementation Manager.
  • Track and follow up on project deliverables.
  • Support in raising demands, oracle system material requests, and movement.
  • Support the PM with team deliverables and project assignments.
  • Coordinate and supervise the installation of core and access nodes across all MTN switching and data centers.
  • Organize and hold stakeholder engagement meetings, as well as track action points and minutes.
  • Ensure projects are financially closed within the financial year.
  • Ensure that all switch installations meet MTN quality and international standards, such as ITU recommendations.
  • Oversee and coordinate all technical activities, and administrative documentation is recorded and available for business use.
  • Project planning, scheduling, and execution.
  • Drive power and space readiness to ensure projects are delivered within schedule.

Education:

  • First degree in Electrical/Electronics/ Communication Engineering.
  • Fluent in English

Experience:

3–7 years’ experience in an area of specialization related to telecom.

  • Experience working in a medium organization.
  • Excellent knowledge of installation and work in a switch or data center environment.
  • Good analytical and logical approach to solving problems.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of mobile communications technologies, networks, and services.
  • Good communication skills for reporting and presenting.
  • Excellent at sharing and imparting knowledge to others.
  • Ability to suggest solutions to application’s problem. Work with vendors at arriving and implementing solutions identified.
  • Ability to work under pressure to produce positive results.
