About the Job
- The ideal candidate will be responsible for the strategic planning, deployment, and maintenance of enterprise database systems.
- This role ensures the stability, security, and performance of databases across the organization, while also providing leadership in troubleshooting complex issues and mentoring junior DBAs.
- The Database Administrator will play a key role in database design, optimization, and ensuring data integrity to support the organization's operational and strategic goals.
Responsibilities
- Database Security & Compliance: Lead efforts to ensure the highest level of database security, managing user access and safeguarding data in compliance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
- Performance Tuning & Optimization: Proactively monitor database performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks, optimizing queries, and ensuring efficient resource utilization.
- Capacity Planning & High Availability: Develop and implement strategies for capacity planning, ensuring databases can scale to meet organizational growth while maintaining high availability and fault tolerance.
- Complex Problem Resolution: Act as the primary escalation point for complex database issues, coordinating with internal teams and third-party vendors to identify and resolve problems efficiently.
- Upgrades & Patch Management: Oversee the deployment of database upgrades, patches, and new releases to ensure minimal downtime and high system reliability.
- Disaster Recovery & Backup Management: Design and implement comprehensive disaster recovery strategies, including backup, restore, and rollback plans to ensure data integrity and system resilience.
- Project Leadership & Support: Provide technical leadership for internal and external database-related projects, ensuring that all requirements are met, and timelines are adhered to.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure databases comply with the company’s Quality Management System, Occupational Health & Safety standards, and all applicable industry regulations.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead efforts to continuously improve database administration processes, exploring new technologies and best practices to enhance system performance and security.
- Adhere to appropriate departmental and company procedures and policies (i.e. change control, security and auditing, release, configuration, problem and incident management)
- Maintain good working relationships with internal departments as well as third-party vendors
- Comply with Quality Management System / Occupational Health & Safety requirements including objectives and applicable regulations relating to assigned jobs
- Assist in Carry out any other duties as requested by the Enterprise Applications Lead and Head of Department.
Qualifications
- First Degree (M.Tech. / M.E) in information Technology or Computer Science or any other related field; or MBA in information technology management or related areas.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in administering Linux and Windows Server environments.
- 6-8 years of hands-on experience in database administration, with significant expertise in database management systems like SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, or other enterprise-level RDBMS.
- Experience in supporting Microsoft Windows Server Application and Web Servers
- Experience with supporting multi-tier infrastructures.
Technical Competencies:
- Expert-level knowledge of database design, development, and administration.
- Advanced proficiency in database query languages (e.g., SQL, PL/SQL).
- Strong experience in performance tuning, backup/recovery strategies, and ensuring database high availability.
- In-depth knowledge of security compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS) and data protection best practices.
- Experience managing enterprise-level RDBMS such as Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, or Oracle
