We are seeking a dedicated and experienced MS SQL DBA to manage our database environment. This role involves the installation, configuration, and maintenance of SQL Server databases to ensure optimal performance, security, and availability. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with a deep understanding of database technologies, a strong commitment to data integrity, and a passion for continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain MS SQL Server instances and databases both on-premises and on cloud infrastructure.
- Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize through query tuning, indexing, and server configuration adjustments.
- Design, implement, and manage backup and recovery strategies to protect data and maintain business continuity.
- Apply security measures such as user permissions, role-based access, and encryption to safeguard sensitive data.
- Configure and manage high-availability solutions including Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, and replication.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as integrity checks, index rebuilds, and statistics updates, and automate these processes using T-SQL, PowerShell, or other scripting tools.
- Diagnose and resolve performance, connectivity, and data integrity issues promptly.
- Collaborate with developers, system administrators, and other teams to support application deployment, database design, and data-driven initiatives.
- Maintain clear documentation of database configurations, operational procedures, and best practices.
- Daily review of SQL Server logs and Windows event logs for any errors or warnings.
- Daily check for failed SQL Agent jobs, such as backups, index rebuilds, and data loading tasks.
- Daily monitoring of database disk / storage space.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, or other relevant certifications.
Professional Experience:
- 3+ years’ proven experience as a SQL Server DBA in a production environment.
- Experience with cloud database platforms, such as Azure SQL Database or Azure SQL Managed Instance.
- ETL: Knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for data transformation and loading.
- Reporting: Familiarity with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) or other reporting tools like Power BI.
Technical Skills:
- Expert knowledge of MS SQL Server: Including versions such as 2019, 2022 and later.
- T-SQL: Strong proficiency in writing and optimizing complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
- High Availability/Disaster Recovery (HA/DR): Hands-on experience with HA/DR technologies like Always on Availability Groups, mirroring, or log shipping.
- Performance Monitoring: Experience with tools like SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQL Server Profiler, and other monitoring solutions.
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical thinking is essential for diagnosing and resolving technical issues efficiently.
- Effective communication is crucial for explaining complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent time management is necessary to prioritize and complete multiple tasks without disrupting operations.
- Collaboration skills are key to working seamlessly with IT teams and cross-functional departments.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
