Job Description

  • We are seeking a highly skilled, knowledgeable, and experienced Head of News and Current Affairs to join our Media Organization.
  • You will be responsible for overseeing and leading the production and delivery of high-quality news and current affairs
  • This is a pivotal role that requires exceptional leadership, strategic thinking,and a deep understanding of the media landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Familiarity with digital media platforms and an understanding of how to integrate multimedia elements into online content.
  • Proficiency in using content management systems (CMS) and other digital tools.
  • Extensive experience in journalism, typically with several years of editorial experience.
  • Previous experience in a senior editorial role, such as an editor or senior reporter covering business and finance.
  • Extensive experience in business journalism, financial reporting, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of business and financial concepts.
  • Familiarity with economic trends, market dynamics, and the ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
  • Extensive experience in investigative journalism, with a proven track record of producing impactful investigative stories.
  • Strong research skills to uncover hidden information, analyse data, and verify sources.
  • Familiarity with investigative techniques and tools.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives from complex and sometimes sensitive information.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess the significance of information and draw connections between facts.
  • Understanding of media law, ethics, and the legal considerations related to investigative journalism.
  • Ability to work within legal and ethical boundaries while pursuing in-depth stories.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field.
  • 5 years Proven experience in a senior editorial role within a reputable news organization, with a focus on news and current affairs.
  • Exceptional understanding of broadcast journalism principles, techniques, and standards.
  • Strong leadership abilities, with a track record of successfully managing and inspiring teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Nigerian media landscape, current affairs, and cultural nuances.
  • Proficiency in leveraging digital tools and platforms for news gathering and dissemination.
  • Sound judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • A passion for journalism, a commitment to journalistic ethics, and a dedication to delivering high-quality content to our audience
