Job Summary

  • The Experienced Editor is responsible for reviewing, editing, and refining manuscripts to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with the company’s editorial standards.
  • The role involves managing multiple projects, working closely with authors, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality content.
  • The editor will provide feedback to authors, maintain consistency in tone and style, and collaborate with the production team to prepare manuscripts for publication. Strong attention to detail, language proficiency, and the ability to meet deadlines are essential for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Review submitted manuscripts for structure, coherence, originality, and market relevance.
  • Provide detailed editorial feedback and suggest necessary revisions to authors.
  • Assess manuscripts for compliance with company publishing standards and the target audience.
  • Perform developmental editing, line editing, and copyediting to ensure clarity, grammar accuracy, and stylistic consistency.
  • Proofread page proofs for spelling, punctuation, layout, and formatting errors before final production.
  • Ensure adherence to the company’s style guide or standard editorial guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with authors to clarify queries and guide revisions.
  • Maintain strong professional relationships with authors to ensure smooth workflow and quality output.
  • Check factual accuracy, references, and citations in academic or educational content.
  • Ensure compliance with copyright laws and intellectual property rights.
  • Work closely with the production team, designers and typesetters to ensure the timely delivery of projects.
  • Track project timelines and update the editorial manager on progress.
  • Stay informed about publishing trends, reader preferences, and competitors’ products.
  • Suggest improvements and innovative ideas for book design, content, and market positioning.

Performance Indicators

  • Number of manuscripts reviewed and edited within deadlines.
  • Quality and accuracy of edited content (low error rate).
  • Author satisfaction and adherence to editorial timelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Linguistics, Mass Communication, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as an editor in a publishing company.
  • Experience in academic, educational, or general book publishing is an Important Advantage

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong command of English grammar, syntax, and editorial best practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with publishing software (e.g., Adobe InDesign, MS Word Track Changes).
  • Knowledge of publishing processes, from manuscript acquisition to final print.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for author interaction.
