Benin Electricity Distribution Plc. (BEDC) is one of the retail electricity distribution companies licensed by the federal government Benin Electricity Disco ("BEDC” or "Benin Disco”) is one of the successor distribution companies (Discos) created following the unbundling and privatization of the state-owned Power Utility, Power Holding Company of Nigeria Plc. BEDC is responsible for retail distribution of electricity in Delta, Edo, Ekiti, and Ondo States with geographical coverage of 55,770 square kilometers. The company operates from twenty five (25) business districts with approximately 350 offices located across the four (4) states with about 13 million people and about 4 million households.

ROLE OVERVIEW

  • The Head of IT plays a strategic and operational role in managing BEDC technology infrastructure and digital transformation. It covers aligning IT objectives with business objectives.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Provision of Strategic Leadership for the IT Department
  • Develop and implement IT strategies aligned with business goals.
  • Drive digital transformation and innovation initiatives.
  • Responsible for the entire BEDC IT framework, Infrastructure & Systems Management
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of IT systems, networks, and hardware.
  • Ensure system reliability, scalability, and security.
  • Ensure the security and provision of Cybersecurity and Compliance to regulations
  • Establish robust security protocols to protect data and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., GDPR, ISO)
  • Responsible for operational and resource management of the IT Department
  • Manage IT budgets, optimize costs, and allocate resources effectively.
  • Negotiate with vendors and manage technology procurement.
  • Provide Team leadership and foster enabling work environment.
  • Lead and develop IT teams, fostering skills and performance.
  • Set clear objectives and monitor progress.
  • Collaborate and provide support to other departments to ensure quality service delivery.
  • Ensure efficient IT support for internal users.
  • Maintain high service levels and resolve technical issues promptly.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks and ensure business continuityIdentify technology risks and implement disaster recovery plans.
  • Ensure minmal downtime and continuity of operations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree In computer science, computer engineering, or other related disciplines.
  • A master's degree is an added advantage.
  • Other professional qualifications are mandatory.

Relevant Experience

  • Minimum of 8- I0 years' post-qualification experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in a DisCo is an advantage.
  • Proven experience in providing strategic leadership
