MTN Nigeria is part of the MTN Group, Africa\'s leading cellular telecommunications company. On May 16, 2001, MTN became the first GSM network to make a call following the globally lauded Nigerian GSM auction conducted by the Nigerian Communications Commission earlier in the year. Thereafter the company launched full commercial operations beginning with Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. MTN paid $285m for one of four GSM licenses in Nigeria in January 2001. To date, in excess of US$1.8 billion has been invested building mobile telecommunications infrastructure in Nigeria. Since launch in August 2001, MTN has steadily deployed its services across Nigeria. It now provides services in 223 cities and towns, more than 10,000 villages and communities and a growing number of highways across the country, spanning the 36 states of the Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Many of these villages and communities are being connected to the world of telecommunications for the first time ever. The company\'s digital microwave transmission backbone, the 3,400 Kilometre Y\'elloBahn was commissioned by President Olusegun Obasanjo in January 2003 and is reputed to be the most extensive digital microwave transmission infrastructure in all of Africa. The Y\'elloBahn has significantly helped to enhance call quality on MTN network.
Division:
Mission:
- Manage performance of the transmission network domain (microwave links, fiber infrastructure, DWDM, satellite, and CTN transport) to ensure optimal service quality.
- Responsible for transmission network quality of service monitoring, analysis, and ensuring transmission network performance indices are maintained above agreed targets, delivering a best-in-class customer experience. Drive initiatives and interventions to improve overall transport network quality.
- Drive automation and visibility across the transmission network domains.
Description:
- Develop a framework to review network performance and ensure compliance in the following areas:.
- Microwave Transmission Performance Analysis and Quality Assurance.
- Fiber Infrastructure and DWDM Performance Analysis
- CTN Transport and related IPMPLS Routers analysis and Quality assurance
- Study and report the performance of the transmission network, and alert the different units for recommendations on implementing the appropriate solutions.
- Drive optimal resource utilization and allocation on the transport network.
- Develop network performance standard specifications and provide reports.
- Automate network performance reports and dashboards.
- Ensure tests and procedures are carried out, evaluated, and properly understood, and ensure product modifications are investigated.
- Providing regular independent performance reports to management, Group and regulators, indicating the actual levels of key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Provide an internal network quality and audit function, allowing independent and objective performance analysis of the network and its impact on the business, including commercial promotion and activity impact analysis.
- Performance and capacity monitoring and reporting of transmission nodes (DWDM, CTN, microwave links, satellites, synchronization clocks, etc.)
- Analysis of the trend of management critical Transmission KPIs report on performance anomalies and exceptions and recommend optimal performance.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance, routine parameter audits, and consistency checks on transmission nodes.
- Monitor transmission NEs with the aim of identifying poor performance and escalating or following up on partners or other departments to improve performance and give customers the desired experience.
- Coordinate KPI improvement recommendations to ensure timely intervention in the case of perceived degradation in transmission node performance.
- Coach and train the Transmission Performance team to ensure understanding of the objectives and goals of the department, awareness of set targets and requirements, and regular review of their training needs.
