Job Description

  • Veegil Media is seeking a Managing Editor to head our Media Team. We are looking for a Managing Editor who will be responsible for creating content strategies and overseeing their implementation processes.
  • You will be required to manage a team of writers, editors and creative designers.
  • You will monitor and edit content pieces to ensure they follow tone and style guides.
  • You will develop strategic plans for our contents/articles/publications, that they continually meet reader or follower needs. You will be required to review all contents/articles/publications for accuracy.
  • You will develop strategies for increasing readership/followership on all our social media platforms and also, generating and increasing ad revenues.
  • You will evaluate the performance of writers, editors, photographers, creative designers and other members of the media team to ensure that they are meeting Veegil's standards for quality and productivity.
  • You will be required to oversee the development of the publication's overall content strategy to ensure that it aligns with Veegil's goals for growth.
  • We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Managing Editor with a high sense of creativity and strong social media presence. The ideal candidate will review written contents for spelling and grammar errors, fact-check information in articles and stories, provide suggestions for edits when needed, write editorial pieces to contribute to the publications.
  • As a seasoned Managing Editor, you must be ready to bring game-changing contents and developments to life and join a community that values civic engagement and political consciousness for the people.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the content creation process from writing through editing and publishing
  • Assign projects and ensuring the media team meets its deadlines.
  • Oversee content creation process to ensure that our contents promote our brand in a positive and engaging way.
  • Use analytical tools to monitor our contents' progress and build strategies to improve our contents according to these results
  • Conduct research on our target audience to determine the best ways to reach and engage with them.
  • Applicant should have work experience in interviewing, with strong writing skills, while demonstrating excellent editorial judgement and conduct.
  • Research on trending topics, combining online sources, generating ideas for new content types and proofreading articles before publication.
  • Develop positive and constructive relationships with sources across a wide range of industries, organizations and regions to bring diverse and well-informed voices into daily reporting.
  • Attract, interview, study, and interact with targeted virtual communities and networks users.
  • Build and execute social media strategy through competitive research.
  • Generate, edit, publish and share daily content original texts, images or videos that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action.
  • Prepare well-structured drafts using Content Management Systems.
  • Coordinate with marketing and design teams to illustrate articles.
  • Conduct simple keyword research and use SEO guidelines to increase web traffic. Promote content on social media.
  • Identify customers’ needs and gaps in our content, and recommend new topics.
  • Ensure all-around consistency in style, fonts, images and tone.
  • Update website content as needed.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Mass Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Proven working experience in Editing, Journalism with portfolio of proven written articles.
  • Demonstrable social networking experience and analytics tools knowledge.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in Journalism, coupled with TV / Web / Media presentation.
  • Knowledge of online marketing and good understanding of major marketing channels.
  • Proven experience in news reporting and ability to perform in front of the camera.
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills, and knowledge of local, national, and international economic news and current events.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Good understanding of social networks and the audience.
  • Proven filming and editing abilities.
  • Proven organizational skills, and ability to work autonomously under tight deadlines.
  • Good editorial judgement, demonstrated ability to produce original and enterprising news reports.
  • Ability to manage new and emerging technologies.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of third party community sites and social networks such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and others.
  • Experience with paid social media campaigns.
  • Strong portfolio of previous work.
