The Role

  • MERL plays a critical role in ensuring the effectiveness, accountability, and learning of our programs. The MERL Assistant Manager will work with the MERL team to ensure all projects are effectively monitored, evaluated, and documented. The role will contribute to evidence-based decision-making, learning, and continuous improvement of programs.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Assist in the development and implementation of M&E frameworks, plans, and tools for projects.
  • Support data collection, analysis, and reporting to track project progress and impact for Ikore.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor project activities and verify data quality.
  • Prepare high-quality M&E reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent the organisation at MERL related meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Stay up to date with the latest MERL trends and best practices.

Research and Learning

  • Support the design and implementation of research studies, including baseline, mid-term, and end-line evaluations.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, lessons learned, and best practices.
  • Contribute to the development of case studies, success stories, and learning briefs to share with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Publish at least five (5) papers (research papers or articles) annually, contributing to industry knowledge.
  • Facilitate learning sessions to share findings and recommendations with project teams and stakeholders.

Data Management

  • Maintain and update project databases to ensure accurate and timely data entry.
  • Use statistical tools (e.g. SPSS, Excel or R) and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) to analyze and present data to Ikore’s management and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure data security and compliance with organizational policies.

Capacity Building

  • Train project staff and partners on M&E tools, data collection methods, and reporting requirements for all projects implemented by Ikore.
  • Provide technical support to project teams to improve data quality and reporting.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Contribute to donor reports, ensuring alignment with reporting requirements and deadlines.
  • Document and archive M&E-related materials, including tools, reports, and datasets.
  • Support the management of Ikore’s knowledge management database and knowledge-sharing platform, including the curation and tagging of resources and the development of user-friendly search and navigation tools.

Collaboration and Coordination

  • Work closely with project teams, partners, and stakeholders to ensure alignment on M&E activities.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings to share M&E findings and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Ikore’s communications team to ensure effective dissemination of the organization’s knowledge and impact to a wide range of audiences, including donors, policymakers, and potential partners.
  • Efficiently support the management and execution of the budgetary allocation for this portfolio.
  • Submit at least five (5) proposals annually within the specialist area.
  • Contribute technical expertise to other calls for proposals.

Education

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., social sciences, development studies, statistics, or economics). A master’s degree is preferred.

Experience

  • At least five (5) years of experience in monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning, preferably in the international development sector.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing M&E frameworks and tools.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills.
  • Experience working with donors or donor-funded projects (e.g., DFID, foundations and UN agencies) and familiarity with their reporting requirements.
