Job Description

  • The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network infrastructure to support the ISP's services. This role involves ensuring optimanetwork performance, scalability, and security. The Network Engineer collaborates with the NOC, operations, and customer service teams to deliver high-quality internet and data services to customers while maintaining the integrity of the network.

Responsibilities

Network Design and Implementation:

  • Design, configure, and deploy ISP network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
  • Plan and execute network upgrades, expansions, and migrations.
  • Ensure network designs are scalable and support current and future service demands.
  • Work with vendors and service providers to integrate new technologies and systems.

Network Monitoring and Troubleshooting:

  • Monitor network performance and identify bottlenecks, failures, and other issues using tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, or Nagios.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of network issues and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Troubleshoot network problems related to connectivity, latency, routing, switching, and traffic management.
  • Ensure alnetwork incidents are handled within defined SLAs (Service LeveAgreements).

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement network security protocols and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Configure and manage firewalls, VPNs, and other security systems to prevent unauthorized access and network threats.
  • Conduct regular network audits and vulnerability assessments to maintain a secure network environment.

Network Optimization and Capacity Planning:

  • Optimize network performance by fine-tuning routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF) and configuring load balancing for high-traffic areas.
  • Monitor network usage and plan for future capacity upgrades based on traffic growth and business needs.
  • Ensure the network is resilient and redundant to minimize downtime and service interruptions.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Collaborate with the NOC team to ensure continuous network monitoring and early detection of issues.
  • Work closely with customer service teams to resolve customer-related network issues.
  • Provide technicasupport to other departments during the deployment of new services or systems.
  • Assist in network-related training for junior engineers and support staff.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed documentation of network designs, configurations, incidents, and resolutions.
  • Create and maintain network diagrams, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Provide regular reports on network performance, uptime, and capacity to management.

Research and Development:

  • Stay up to date with the latest networking technologies and best practices.
  • Evaluate new networking solutions, tools, and equipment to improve network performance and reliability.
  • Participate in proof-of-concept testing for new networking products and services.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or a related field.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as CCNP, JNCIA, or equivalent is highly desirable.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in network engineering, preferably within an ISP or telecommunications company.
  • Hands-on experience with routers, switches, firewalls, and other network equipment from vendors like Cisco, Juniper, and Huawei.
  • TechnicaSkills:
  • Strong knowledge of IP networking, including IPv4/IPv6, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VLANs, and VPNs.
  • Strong Expertise in routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, and MPLS.
  • Familiarity with network automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Bash) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in using network monitoring and management tools like SolarWinds, Wireshark, or PRTG.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving and analyticaskills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technicaconcepts to non-technicastakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Team player with a proactive attitude towards continuous improvement.
