The Hub also network stakeholders from diverse walks of life to create these solutions and also encourage social accountability through social creativity activating knowledge networks harnessing resources and imagination across society not just within public service professions and institutions

Job Description

CcHUB's Design for Health Practice (DFH) fosters a thriving ecosystem of health tech innovation. Through design thinking, DFH collaborates with stakeholders to develop impactful human-centred solutions that address health challenges and empower African communities. Combining public health expertise with technology and design, DFH works to improve health outcomes across Africa. This is achieved through four key functions:

  • Fostering health tech startups
  • Building Human-Centered Design (HCD) capacity
  • Co-creating solutions
  • Facilitating a thriving community of practice and advancing relevant research

About the Project

The Design for Health Practie of CcHUB is working on a project focused on investigating the use and perceptions of contraceptive products among women of reproductive age in Lagos and Kano states, Nigeria. Specifically, the project aims to; validate existing insights on vaginal insertable products in Nigeria; gather additional data on user needs, preferences, and challenges; collect multimedia content (audio recordings and photos) to enhance storytelling and refine insights and tag data on a designated platform for use in future storytelling.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Qualitative Researcher (Analyst)to join the team implementing a research project focused on understanding the perceptions, experiences, andbehaviours of women regarding contraceptive products in Lagos and Kano states. The Qualitative Researcher will play a key role in designing and executing qualitative research activities, analysing findings, and providing actionable insights to inform interventions aimed at improving maternal health outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities

Research Design and Planning:

  • Collaborate with the project team to develop qualitative research frameworks, including interview guides and focus group discussion (FGD) protocols.
  • Ensure research tools are culturally sensitive, contextually appropriate, and aligned with Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles.
  • Assist with translation of tools and instruments from English to Hausa/Yoruba and back translation from Hausa/Yoruba to English (e.g., surveys, questionnaires,consent forms, Bio Data forms etc.)
  • Pilot tools coordinating with partner and various project team members, support in finalizing the tools prior to actual data collection
  • Liaise with different team members to align on the research timeline and plan for qualitative data collection
  • Work with the Project manager and other project team members to provide regular and re-fresher qualitative methods training and workshops to team members involved in qualitative data collection at Possible and partner sites
  • Manage and coordinate logistics for qualitative data collection and training working collaboratively with multiple team members
  • Support in preparing submission of Institutional review boards (IRBs)/manuscript/guidelines/SOPs and any other reports relevant to the projects

Data Collection:

  • Conduct in-depth interviews and moderate FGDs with women of reproductive age (15–49 years), especially from vulnerable groups.
  • Facilitate participatory data collection activities using behavioural science approaches.
  • Collect multimedia content (e.g., audio recordings and photos) in line with ethical guidelines.
  • Maintain regular field notes from observation and interaction relevant to the research and program
  • Ensure ethical conduct of research by following protocols approved by institutional review boards and also guide the organization to think critically about putting people at the centre of our work and research
  • Engage with multi-layers of stakeholders to ensure the smooth implementation of research in the field

Data Analysis and Synthesis:

  • Analyze qualitative data to identify themes, patterns, and user insights.
  • Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to map user journeys and refine insights.
  • Contribute to tagging data on the designated platform for enhanced storytelling.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare clear, concise, and actionable reports, including insights, challenges, and recommendations.
  • Contribute to the development of knowledge products, including user journey maps and multimedia storytelling materials.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Engage with community members, local stakeholders, and research participants to build trust and ensure inclusive participation.
  • Collaborate with other team members, including quantitative researchers and HCD specialists, to integrate findings.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Anthropology, Public Health, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience conducting qualitative research, preferably in public health or social innovation projects.
  • Experience working with vulnerable groups and in diverse cultural settings, particularly in Nigeria.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Human-Centered Design (HCD) or participatory research methods.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in qualitative data collection methods, including interviews and FGDs.
  • Strong analytical and report-writing skills, with the ability to present findings in a clear and actionable format.
  • Familiarity with using qualitative data analysis software (e.g., NVivo, Atlas.ti) is an advantage.
  •  Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in English and local languages spoken in Lagos and Kano is a plus.
