Care Best Initiative (CBI) is a fast-growing, woman-led, and youth-driven Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in 2019 and presently operational in states within North-East, Nigeria. Our objectives are to save lives, alleviate the suffering of children, women, and other vulnerable people; and maintain human dignity during and in the aftermath of man-made crises and natural disasters; as well as to prevent and strengthen preparedness for the occurrence of such situations; and to promote the right of children, women and vulnerable people in the society. Our actions are multi-sectorial inclined, gender-sensitive, and socially inclusive.
Purpose of Role
- The Report Writer will support Care Best Initiative’s documentation, learning, and communication efforts by developing high-quality reports, case studies, success stories, and other programmatic documentation.
- The role ensures accurate and timely reporting that aligns with donor requirements and showcases the impact of CBI’s humanitarian and development interventions.
- The role bridges the gap between program implementation, Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E), and external communication through clear and compelling writing.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and edit donor reports (monthly, quarterly, annual) in collaboration with MEAL and Program teams, ensuring adherence to donor guidelines and organizational standards.
- Develop success stories, human-interest pieces, and case studies from field activities using ethically sound storytelling approaches.
- Collect, verify, and analyze data and beneficiary feedback to inform report writing and learning materials.
- Collaborate with project teams to produce situation reports, project updates, and visibility materials as needed.
- Support proposal development by contributing writing inputs, formatting, and background research.
- Maintain a documentation system (digital archive) for reports, photos, stories, and other communication materials.
- Edit and proofread reports and documents submitted by project teams for accuracy, grammar, consistency, and formatting.
- Participate in key field visits and program meetings to gain contextual knowledge for documentation.
- Contribute to the development of capacity-building materials or editorial guidance on report writing for field staff.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the MEAL Coordinator or Program Manager.
Requirements
Knowledge (Education & Related Experience):
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 - 3 years of experience in report writing or communications in a development or humanitarian setting.
- Demonstrated experience in writing donor reports for national and international organizations.
- Strong understanding of Monitoring and Evaluation concepts, indicators, and reporting tools.
Experience:
- Sector Experience in one or more of: Health, Nutrition, GBV, SRH, Protection, Child Protection, or WASH.
- Experience gathering and writing success stories, case studies, and human-interest stories directly from beneficiaries and community members.
- Prior exposure to donor reporting requirements and use of indicator-based reporting in collaboration with MEAL teams.
- Field-level understanding of humanitarian or development programming, especially in fragile contexts like northeast Nigeria.
- Experience producing reports for international NGOs, UN agencies, or institutional donors.
- Capacity to work across cross-functional teams (MEAL, Program, Communications) and coordinate report inputs from multiple field locations.
