Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Scientist / Data Engineer in a contract role to lead our data analysis and predictive model development. The ideal candidate will be adept at using and understanding large data sets to drive insight on risk-related matters for process optimization and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action. We expect the candidate to be very proficient in using Python and Power BI and quick to understand an existing codebase.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex data analysis projects that drive business decisions and efficiencies.
  • Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to datasets.
  • Use predictive modeling to forecast and optimize key business metrics
  • Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes. 
  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy

What You’ll Be Working On

As a pivotal member of our data science team, your role will involve:

  • Algorithm Development: Enhance the capabilities of our existing machine learning algorithms and play a key role in developing new models. This includes everything from conceptualization to deployment.
  • Data Analysis: Work with complex, real-world datasets to extract actionable insights, identify trends, and inform product design decisions.
  • Collaboration and Innovation: Collaborate closely with our product development team to integrate descriptive and predictive models into our platform. Your contributions will be crucial in driving innovation in sustainable product design.
  • Cloud-Based Solutions: Engage with cloud-based technologies to manage and process large data sets efficiently, ensuring the scalability and robustness of our solutions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Actively seek ways to improve our algorithms' accuracy and efficiency, staying abreast of the latest advancements in machine learning and data science.

Requirements

  • Relevant real-world experience in Data Science
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience as a Data Scientist 
  • Proven experience in leading and executing data-driven projects.
  • Experience in building well-defined dashboards and reporting Power BI to drive insights.
  • Must understand the system development life cycle, project management approaches, and requirements, design, and test techniques.
  • Education: Advanced degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on product development.
  • Proficiency in using statistical computer languages (primarily Python, Numpy, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
  • Experience using web services (incl. Redshift, S3, etc.)
  • Experience in social media listening and analysis
  • Experience in working with shapefile and maps
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, neural networks, properties of distributions, statistical tests, etc.) and experience with applications.
  • SQL development and database administration.
  • Extensive experience with data processing, database programming, and data analytics.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as SQL and Python for data manipulation, analysis, and model building 
  • Strong grasp of cloud services and distributed data computing.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Having worked within the government sector is a plus. 
  • Self-starter and ability to work with minimal supervision
