The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a global humanitarian aid, relief and development nongovernmental organization. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers emergency aid and long-term assistance to refugees and those displaced by war, persecution or natural disaster. The IRC is currently working in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities where it resettles refugees and helps them become self-sufficient. Composed of first responders, humanitarian relief workers, international development experts, health care providers, and educators, the IRC has assisted millions of people around the world since its founding in 1933.
Scope:
The IT Department supports the organization’s work by providing reliable and scalable applications and infrastructure of the IRC’s offices in the US and around the world, including many technologically challenging locations. An integral component of this effort is ensuring that Country Programs have the capacity to implement and support these IT initiatives effectively across the country offices and in the field sites.
Under the direct supervision of IT coordinator, the Senior IT Manager is a member of the IRC Operations Department in the Nigeria Office. The Senior IT Manager will be responsible for IT functional oversight in the CP.
A key aspect of this role is to ensure all technology implementations in-country conform to the global IT policies and procedures hence working closely with Country IT and Regional IT lead is vital.
Position Holder will be based in Maiduguri having a strong focus on Maiduguri IT Operations while providing technical support and ensuring IT Focal points in the BAY States and Northwest work in conformity to the global IT policies.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities of the Senior IT Manager include but are not limited to the following:
Functional oversight:
- Provide functional oversight for the IT Team in the country program.
- As instructed by the IT coordinator, responsible for updating and disseminating the IT policy of IRC across field sites and ensuring staff are aware of it.
Network Infrastructure:
- Ensure that all IT infrastructure is efficient in supporting office needs and complies with global IT guidelines
- Ensure the IT Setup in all offices are emergency prepared
- Collaborate with the IT team to ensure optimal network performance, security, and availability.
- Improve the network infrastructure (Switches, Routers, APs, etc.) where necessary.
Collaboration:
- In coordination with the IT Coordinator, put work plans in place for improving IT systems, Internet connections and local networks for better performance and benefits in the Northwest.
- Work with the IT Managers to setup training opportunities to strengthen the knowledge of basic IT Skills, and create awareness where needed.
Project Support:
- Collaborate with the IT team and project stakeholders to provide technical expertise and support for IT-related projects.
- Look for innovative ideas to increase productivity, enhance user performance and reduce cost operational cost where available
Documentation and Asset Management:
- Review all IT Inventories and access controls to make sure they are accurate, regularly updated, and have measures in place to enforce integrity and availability.
- Verify and provide technical support in regard to purchasing spare parts for IT equipments, ensuring equipment purchased are of the right specifications and conform to the IRC standard specifications
Server and Active Directory Management:
- Assist in the deployment, maintenance, and administration of servers, including the management of Active Directory and domain services.
- Monitor server performance, conduct routine maintenance tasks, and ensure data backup and disaster recovery procedures are in place.
Vendor Engagement:
Work directly with IT vendors in country to obtain support, repair, and use warranty information.
Participate as a procurement committee member where needed.
Qualifications
Education: BSc in Computer Engineering/Science, Information Technology or equivalent
Technical Skills & Experience
- At least 6 years of relevant experience in IT is a must, four of which should be in an INGO setting.
- Experience in team collaboration, team management and supervision
- Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical troubleshooting results to IT peers for seamless issue resolution
- Experience in networking, Unifi Network devices, Cisco Routers and switches, etc.
- Experience with ServiceNow Ticketing system.
- Experience in desktop and laptop installation and maintenance
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Operating systems and Applications suite installation and troubleshooting
- Proficiency with client-server environment using Microsoft Server 2019 implementing Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and group policy objects
- Familiarity in server and endpoint updating and patching methodologies.
- Good technical writing/documentation skills
- Experience with the following technologies: LAN, WAN, VSAT [c and Ku band], and Starlink.
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Windows Server Management, or equivalent is a plus.
