Job Introduction
Partnerships and partner radio stations are key to how BBC World Service reaches audience.
The WS Partner Hub creates bespoke content, including news bulletins and 2 ways, for local and regional broadcasters around the world.
We are now looking to expand our work with partners in Africa by appointing a Senior Journalist based in Lagos.
Any offer of employment with the BBC will be conditional upon you already having the right to work in the Nigeria
Main Responsibilities
- Working closely with the central Partner Hub team, write, record, edit and comply material suitable for partner stations in Africa and around the world, including recorded news bulletins and 2 ways.
- Monitor partner stations in Africa to ensure Partner Hub content compliments their output.
- Work with Business Development to extend the network of partner stations in Africa.
- Stay abreast of media trends and developments in Africa and as a senior member of the team consider how the WS Partner Hub could evolve its service to respond.
- Actively seek ways to reach diverse audiences and introduce and implement strategies to improve engagement with them.
- Work to increase reach and impact of World Service English content in Africa
- Use analytics to inform digital and social story choices and ensure the content is delivered in the right format(s).
Are you the right candidate?
- Fluent in written and spoken English and another of the main languages spoken in Africa.
- A good broadcasting voice and ability to adapt your style to the target audience.
- Demonstrable knowledge of international current affairs and the ability to produce impactful original content as well as the coverage of major breaking news.
- Experience of writing sharp, engaging news bulletins.
- To be able to write quickly, clearly and engagingly and sub-edit or rework scripts to make them suitable for partner stations.
- A successful track record of working in an audio production environment is desirable with demonstrable experience in social media and interactivity.
- A clear understanding of the needs and profile of the target audience and the ability to translate these into imaginative and compelling content solutions.
- Familiarity with the BBC Editorial Guidelines, and laws relating to journalism.
- Demonstrable experience of working productively and collaboratively, and to tight deadlines.
