Role Overview
- Global Citizen is seeking a Senior Manager of Social Media to drive content creation and reporting for Global Citizen's social media channels across multiple platforms, with a particular focus on our Africa-focused channels.
- This role reports to the Director, Social Content, and works closely with our Senior Director, Social and Senior Manager, Social Media.
- This person will have a mandate to help bring content to life on the platforms where our Africa-based audience is: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more.
- They will be laser-focused on developing engaging social media content to reach our audience across our active platforms, with an emphasis on growing our audience on the African continent through always-on content, campaign promotion, and more.
- This person will: help elevate Global Citizen and its associated sub-brands across social media, with a particular focus on Move Afrika; drive social strategy for the African continent and lead on-the-ground social media efforts for tentpole events there; support the value of social to the entire organization; and look at every campaign and event in the organization as an opportunity to flex their creative muscles and create best-in-class social content.
Key Responsibilities
Content Strategy + Planning Weighed 35%:
- Serve as Social Media Lead for Africa social channels, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, driving our strategy, presence, and content for these audiences
- Develop content strategies for ongoing social content, campaign content, and more across all active African social media channels, laddering up to our overarching social strategy
- Support Social Director and Senior Social Director in achieving KPIs assigned to social (engagements, acquisition, and more)
- Explore new platforms to further Global Citizen’s social growth, including providing recommendations around where we should experiment, supporting Social Content Director on new channel launches, and more
Content Creation + Programming Weighed 35%:
- Develop best-in-class social content for Africa and Global social channels, demonstrating strong skill in social design and copywriting
- Design engaging social-first assets, marrying brand identity with top-performing post formats to create visuals for all social channels
- Draft copy for various social platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, Threads, and LinkedIn
- Execute programming of Africa social media channels as needed
Event Support Weighed 20%:
- Serve as the on-the-ground point person for all applicable events, leading on social media onsite and liaising with Global team (particularly Senior Director of Social) as needed
- Provide live-event coverage on social media as part of a larger social team around major events in the organization
Content Auditing + Results Reporting Weighed 10%:
- Create data/metrics reports to evaluate the success of campaigns, events, and more
- Provide quantitative and qualitative analyses of social content performance for recap decks, board reports, and presentations
- Conduct regular audits of social content and results pulls to inform future content strategy, liaising with Social Director to feed into larger content strategy accordingly
Requirements For Success
Educational Qualification & Experience:
- 5-6 years professional experience as a social media editor and/or content creator
- Proven experience developing dynamic, engaging content for a variety of social platforms
- Deep understanding of social media landscape, trending content, and key functionalities across major platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X)
Attributes:
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage various competing priorities
- Creative, proactive, and able to spot problems and solve them
- A team player with a positive, can-do attitude and sense of humor
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of data tools such as Google Analytics, Sprout, Later, and more
- Ability to analyze data and work in data tools to create custom reports
- Ability to work in Canva / Photoshop / Illustrator / InDesign to create social media content
- Ability to present confidently to a variety of audiences and stakeholders

- Must be authorized for employment in Nigeria
- Travel may be required for this position, and valid travel documentation must be maintained at all times.
- Global Citizen operates on a hybrid work model - 3 days (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) in our Lagos office and 2 days (Monday & Friday) telecommuting.
