Job Description
- We are seeking a skilled Server L2 Linux Engineer to join our IT team. This role involves administering, maintaining, and supporting our Linux server environment, providing Level 2 support to ensure system stability, security, and performance.
- The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Linux operating systems, troubleshooting server issues, and supporting enterprise-level server infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Server Administration:
- Manage and maintain Linux servers to ensure high availability, security, and optimal performance.
- Perform regular system updates, patches, and software installations to keep systems current and secure.
- Configure and manage server environments, including provisioning resources, setting permissions, and optimizing configurations.
Troubleshooting and Support:
- Provide Level 2 support for Linux servers, resolving escalated issues and troubleshooting system errors.
- Work with Level 1 support to investigate and resolve complex issues related to server performance, connectivity, and application configurations.
- Escalate critical issues to Level 3 support or external vendors when necessary.
Monitoring and Optimization:
- Continuously monitor system performance and conduct proactive maintenance to prevent issues.
- Utilize monitoring tools to track server health, resource usage, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Identify opportunities to optimize system performance, including load balancing, caching, and tuning settings.
Security and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with company security policies by implementing access controls, applying necessary security patches, and configuring firewalls.
- Conduct routine security audits and participate in vulnerability assessments to protect systems from threats.
- Document security incidents, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions for future reference.
Collaboration and Documentation:
- Work collaboratively with IT teams, including network, storage, and application support, to ensure seamless integration across systems.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of configurations, processes, and troubleshooting steps to aid in future support efforts.
- Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders regarding system status, planned maintenance, and incidents.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (preferred).
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in Linux server administration, with at least 1-2 years in an L2 support role.
- Certifications: Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or similar Linux certification is a plus.
Skills and Competencies:
Technical Skills:
- Strong proficiency with Linux operating systems (e.g., RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu).
- Knowledge of server monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, or SolarWinds).
- Familiarity with shell scripting (e.g., Bash, Python) to automate tasks.
- Experience with server virtualization (e.g., VMware, KVM) and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is an advantage.
- Understanding of network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, SSH, FTP) and basic networking principles.
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively.
