Analyst - Business Performance at MTN Nigeria

MTN Nigeria is part of the MTN Group, Africa\'s leading cellular telecommunications company. On May 16, 2001, MTN became the first GSM network to make a call following the globally lauded Nigerian GSM auction conducted by the Nigerian Communications Commission earlier in the year. Thereafter the company launched full commercial operations beginning with Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. MTN paid $285m for one of four GSM licenses in Nigeria in January 2001. To date, in excess of US$1.8 billion has been invested building mobile telecommunications infrastructure in Nigeria. Since launch in August 2001, MTN has steadily deployed its services across Nigeria. It now provides services in 223 cities and towns, more than 10,000 villages and communities and a growing number of highways across the country, spanning the 36 states of the Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Many of these villages and communities are being connected to the world of telecommunications for the first time ever. The company\'s digital microwave transmission backbone, the 3,400 Kilometre Y\'elloBahn was commissioned by President Olusegun Obasanjo in January 2003 and is reputed to be the most extensive digital microwave transmission infrastructure in all of Africa. The Y\'elloBahn has significantly helped to enhance call quality on MTN network.

Mission:

  • To efficiently manage and coordinate performance reporting and financial analysis activities within the Fixed Broadband division, align efforts towards achieving revenue, subscriber, and non-financial KPIs.
  • Provide expertise in financial modeling, data visualization, and business performance reporting to support Fixed Broadband Sales, Fibre Development, and Customer Management in meeting their financial goals.
  • Collect, analyze, interpret, and summarize complex data in the preparation and generation of statistical and analytical reports to provide intelligence to guide Fixed Broadband in making informed decisions. 

Description:

  • Develop and automate Fixed broadband business reports (standard reports, visualizations, and dashboards); derive business intelligence and insights from internal sources to inform better decision-making.
  • Prepare regular management and dashboard reports to provide insight into Fixed broadband KPIs, metrics, financials, non-financials, and other performance areas to support decision-making.
  • Monitor and prepare trend analysis, graphs, and variance analysis to support the development of strategies and initiatives that deliver on organizational objectives.
  • Propose process efficiencies for data analysis, content, consistency, and intelligence to maximize display and data quality assurance.
  • Perform variance analysis on projects within the fixed broadband division.
  • Produce analysis and business intelligence for Fixed broadband by utilizing various tools and drawing on proven proficiency and experience (including all aspects of the architecture of cube/report design, creation, etc.).
  • Provide management with fact-based, business-oriented, actionable insights to facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Validation and control of revenue reports.
  • Provide and articulate an understanding of secondary data sources and knowledge of the interoperability of data sources.
  • Assist in the identification and mitigation of risks that may impact the business and provide scenarios to achieve the most favorable financial returns.
  • Generate periodic product performance assessment reports and reviews.
  • Provide micro- and macro-environmental insights (economic factors, competitor analysis, etc.) and effective recommendations to drive revenue growth and mitigate identified risks.
  • Manage periodic data queries, extraction, validation, and reporting processes.
  • Collaborate with other business units in the development of business models for use in MTNN and develop measurement strategies to support ongoing strategy development and project optimization.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information systems management, or related fields
  • Fluent English

Experience:

3–7 years of working experience, which includes;

  • 2 years’ experience in the area of data science, analytics, business systems, business intelligence, and any related discipline.
  • 2 years minimum within the Telco environment
  • Experience as a business performance analyst.
  • Strong talent for drawing conclusions and recommendations from complex data sets
  • Proven experience in business intelligence tools (Oracle, SAS, Business Objects, DB2, etc.)
  • Experience in data warehousing and dataflow structure within telecoms industry is desirable.
