The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is one of the world's leading research partners in finding solutions for hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. Our award-winning research for development (R4D) addresses the development needs of tropical countries. We work with partners to enhance crop quality and productivity, reduce producer and consumer risks, and generate wealth from agriculture. We are a nonprofit organization founded in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported by several countries. Our mission is to enhance food security and improve livelihoods in Africa through research for development (R4D). We use the R4D model in setting a research course that addresses major development problems in Africa rather than simply contributing to scientific knowledge. It has proven to be an effective mechanism for agricultural research development. We and our partners have delivered about 70% of the international research impact in sun-Saharan Africa in the last three decades.
DUTIES:
- Develop and implement communication strategies to support project objectives.
- Develop, manage, and publish engaging content across digital platforms, including social media, websites, newsletters, and official reports.
- Draft press releases, feature articles, and other media-related materials to enhance project visibility.
- Monitor media coverage and manage timely responses to media inquiries.
- Support communication plans for events, including the preparation of invitations, press kits, and promotional materials.
- Support internal communication efforts to ensure project teams are well-informed and aligned.
- Coordinate media relations and foster stakeholder engagement to strengthen project outreach.
- Track projects communication activities and prepare detailed reports.
- Provide recommendations to enhance communication effectiveness and audience engagement.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Requirements
QUALIFICATION:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations or related field with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience performing a similar role in a well-structured environment.
COMPETENCIES:

- Demonstrate excellent writing, editing, and digital content creation skills.
- Be proficient in managing social media platforms, as well as skilled in photography, graphic design, video editing, and digital marketing.
- Exhibit strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.

- Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team environment.
