Job Summary:
- The ESG Ratings Analyst is responsible for evaluating companies' Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance by analyzing data, sustainability reports, and industry trends. The analyst will assess corporate ESG risks and opportunities, assign ratings or scores, and provide insights to investors, clients, and internal stakeholders. This role requires strong analytical skills, knowledge of ESG frameworks, and the ability to communicate findings effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
ESG Data Analysis & Research:
- Collect, analyze, and interpret ESG data from company disclosures, regulatory filings, and third-party sources.
- Apply ESG rating methodologies to assess companies' sustainability performance.
- Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging ESG risks.
Company ESG Assessments:
- Conduct in-depth evaluations of companies' ESG policies, practices, and performance.
- Benchmark companies against peers and sector-specific ESG criteria.
- Identify material ESG issues relevant to different industries.
Rating & Reporting:
- Assign ESG ratings/scores based on predefined frameworks (e.g., MSCI, Sustainalytics, SASB, GRI).
- Prepare detailed ESG research reports and summaries for clients and stakeholders.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy in rating methodologies.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Respond to client inquiries regarding ESG ratings and methodology.
- Collaborate with investment teams, sustainability consultants, and data providers.
- Engage with companies for ESG disclosure clarification when necessary.
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated on evolving ESG standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Contribute to the enhancement of ESG rating models and methodologies.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Sustainability, Finance, Environmental Science, Business, or a related field.
- Experience: 5+ years in ESG research, sustainability analysis, or a related role (experience with ESG ratings agencies is a plus).
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in ESG frameworks (e.g., SASB, TCFD, GRI, UN PRI).
- Strong data analysis skills (Excel, ESG software, Bloomberg ESG, or similar tools).
- Familiarity with financial markets and corporate sustainability reporting.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Critical thinking and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in ESG/sustainability (e.g., CFA ESG Investing, GRI, CESGA).
- Experience with Python, SQL, or data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI).
