Job Summary

  • The IT Surveillance Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of CCTV and surveillance systems. This role ensures the security, reliability, and optimal performance of video surveillance infrastructure, including cameras, NVRs/DVRs, storage systems, and network integrations. The candidate should have strong knowledge of surveillance hardware, networking, and security best practices.

Key ResponsibilitiesCCTV Installation & Configuration

  • Install and configure CCTV cameras (IP & Analog), DVRs, NVRs, and related hardware.
  • Set up and optimize camera angles, resolutions, and recording settings for maximum coverage.
  • Ensure proper cabling (Ethernet, Coaxial, Fiber) and power supply management (PoE, UPS, etc.).
  • Configure remote access for live monitoring and playback on mobile and desktop devices.

Network & Storage Management

  • Integrate CCTV systems with network infrastructure for remote access and real-time monitoring.
  • Manage storage solutions for video archiving, including local HDDs, NAS, and cloud-based storage.
  • Implement retention policies and automate backup solutions to prevent data loss.
  • Monitor network bandwidth usage and optimize streaming quality to reduce lag.

Surveillance System Security

  • Implement access controls and authentication mechanisms for secure video access.
  • Configure firewalls, VLANs, and VPNs to protect surveillance systems from cyber threats.
  • Conduct regular firmware updates and security patches on CCTV hardware.
  • Monitor system logs for unauthorized access and potential security breaches.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Perform routine system health checks and preventive maintenance on CCTV equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve camera, connectivity, and storage-related issues.
  • Replace or repair faulty hardware, including cables, power supplies, and recording devices.
  • Ensure minimal downtime by maintaining backup configurations and spare equipment.

Integration & Automation

  • Integrate CCTV systems with access control, alarms, and motion detection solutions.
  • Configure AI-based analytics for motion detection, facial recognition, and intrusion alerts.
  • Develop automated alerts for system failures, storage capacity issues, and camera malfunctions.
  • Work with third-party vendors for system upgrades and software enhancements.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain detailed records of camera locations, IP addresses, and hardware specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with local surveillance laws, data protection policies, and company regulations.
  • Generate reports on footage retention, system uptime, and security incidents.
  • Train security personnel and staff on proper usage of surveillance systems.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Electronics, or a related field (preferred but not mandatory).
  • 3-5 years of experience in CCTV setup, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of IP-based surveillance systems and video management software (VMS).
  • Experience with brands like Hikvision, Dahua, Axis, Bosch, Avigilon, etc.
  • Familiarity with networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, PoE, port forwarding) and remote access setup.
  • Understanding of storage solutions, RAID configurations, and cloud-based video storage.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for CCTV systems.
  • Certifications like CCNA, CompTIA Security+, Hikvision/Dahua Certified Engineer (preferred).
