Key Responsibilities
System Installation & Configuration:
- Install, configure, and secure Red Hat, Oracle Enterprise Linux, and Solaris operating systems to meet business and security requirements.
- Deploy system patches, updates, and upgrades to maintain compliance and stability.
- Integrate Linux hosts with Red Hat Satellite for centralized lifecycle management.
Automation & Scripting:
- Automate system administration tasks using Ansible playbooks and shell scripting.
- Develop and maintain scripts for system monitoring, performance tuning, and routine maintenance.
- Implement automation for OS provisioning, configuration, and compliance enforcement.
Virtualization & Cloud Integration:
- Manage and support virtualization platforms including Oracle VM Manager, KVM, and VMware vCenter.
- Support migration of workloads between on-premises and cloud environments.
- Collaborate with cloud engineers to ensure integration of Unix/Linux systems with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
System Monitoring & Troubleshooting:
- Continuously monitor server performance, availability, and resource utilization.
- Diagnose and resolve OS-related incidents, hardware compatibility issues, and application dependencies.
- Provide second- and third-level support for Unix/Linux infrastructure escalations.
Security & Compliance:
- Apply hardening standards and vulnerability remediation measures on Unix/Linux systems.
- Ensure compliance with security benchmarks (e.g., CIS, ISO 27001) and organizational policies.
- Manage user access controls, authentication, and system auditing to safeguard infrastructure.
Backup, Recovery & High Availability:
- Implement backup and restore procedures to protect critical system data.
- Support clustering and high-availability solutions to minimize downtime.
- Perform disaster recovery drills to validate business continuity readiness.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work closely with application teams, DBAs, and network engineers to support system requirements.
- Engage with security, compliance, and DevOps teams to align infrastructure with enterprise standards.
- Support project delivery by contributing Unix/Linux expertise to design and deployment initiatives.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing:
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Conduct training and knowledge-sharing sessions with junior engineers and support teams.
- Ensure changes are tracked, reviewed, and recorded in accordance with ITIL processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years progressive experience administering and supporting enterprise-level Unix/Linux environments (Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle Linux, Solaris).
- Proven track record of performing system installation, configuration, patching, and lifecycle management in mission-critical environments.
- Strong expertise in shell scripting (Bash, Korn, Python) and automation tools (Ansible, Red Hat Satellite) to streamline system administration.
- Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies (VMware vCenter, Oracle VM, KVM) and integration with cloud-based infrastructure.
- Demonstrated ability to configure, monitor, and troubleshoot high-availability clusters, backup solutions, and disaster recovery environments.
- Solid understanding of security hardening, compliance standards, and user access controls within Unix/Linux systems.
- Experience with performance monitoring and tuning to optimize system stability and resource utilization.
- Familiarity with API integration, DevOps practices, and interoperability between Unix/Linux and enterprise applications.
- Proficiency in SQL for system-related queries, reporting, and integration support.
