MTN Nigeria is part of the MTN Group, Africa\'s leading cellular telecommunications company. On May 16, 2001, MTN became the first GSM network to make a call following the globally lauded Nigerian GSM auction conducted by the Nigerian Communications Commission earlier in the year. Thereafter the company launched full commercial operations beginning with Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. MTN paid $285m for one of four GSM licenses in Nigeria in January 2001. To date, in excess of US$1.8 billion has been invested building mobile telecommunications infrastructure in Nigeria. Since launch in August 2001, MTN has steadily deployed its services across Nigeria. It now provides services in 223 cities and towns, more than 10,000 villages and communities and a growing number of highways across the country, spanning the 36 states of the Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Many of these villages and communities are being connected to the world of telecommunications for the first time ever. The company\'s digital microwave transmission backbone, the 3,400 Kilometre Y\'elloBahn was commissioned by President Olusegun Obasanjo in January 2003 and is reputed to be the most extensive digital microwave transmission infrastructure in all of Africa. The Y\'elloBahn has significantly helped to enhance call quality on MTN network.

Mission: 

To operate, maintain, and implement a highly effective and cost-efficient end-to-end network security framework within the MTNN voice and customer data networks.

Description:

  • Operate, maintain, and document IP security guidelines, procedures, and policies, and implement network security best practices.
  • Maintain and manage firewall, access list, and administration policies.
  • Testing protocols for new applications to prevent compromising security.
  • Implement policies for customer authentication.
  • Direct the development and enforcement of information security and privacy policies in compliance with MTNN and telecommunications regulations and standards.
  • Help establish and document IT security guidelines, procedures, and policies, and implement network security best practices.
  • Manage and document IP customer security requirements.
  • Assist in the planning and design of secure networks.
  • Scrutinize customer design and determine the impact on the MTN network in terms of security; assist customers in designing a secure solution for interaction between the customer system and MTN network.
  • Implementing redundancy and load balance solutions.
  • Deployment, installation, configuration, management, and maintenance of mission-critical enterprise firewalls, IPS, VPNs, and other technical controls.
  • Implement and maintain a suite of security metrics to enable the effectiveness of the security strategy and operation to be measured and related security issues to be understood and managed.
  • Enforce security policies in line with the CISO mandate.
  • Research on an ongoing basis on new technology trends to map internal MTN customers' needs to enabling technologies.
  • Understand the capabilities and limitations of enabling technologies.
  • Evaluate and trial new security solutions and technologies before deployment.
  • Create technology inputs for business cases and development plans specifically related to network security technologies.
  • Coach and train the team to ensure understanding of the objectives and goals of the department, awareness of set targets and requirements, and regular review of their training needs.
  • Review the performance of individual team members and complete appraisals in accordance with the employee performance appraisal procedures and time schedules.

Education:

  • First degree in any related discipline
  • Fluent in English
  • Possession of a professional qualification (CCNP, CEH, CCSA, CISSP, ITIL, CCIE) would be an advantage.

Experience:

6–13 years’ experience, which includes:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an area of specialization, with experience in supervising or managing others
  • Experience working in a medium- to large organization.
  • Experience in Networking Security Environment, including VPNs, Cisco ASA firewalls and Checkpoint firewalls, VPN solutions, IPsec, Fortinet, Tacacs+, Access-Lists, load balancing, and patch management
  • Proven network security architecture knowledge across multiple security domains.
  • Experience in multi-vendor network operations
  • Solid security experience is essential.
