GPON provides life-skill education and psychosocial support to conflict-affected, WaSH community or camp services, Education in emergency services, Gender-based Violence mitigation services, Child protection service, Protection monitoring services, Nutrition and public health services.
The Opportunity
For the next 12 months, GPON with funding support from ECW-SCI, will be implementing an Education in Emergencies project in Zamfara and Kastina states, focusing on improving education in emergencies and protection outcomes for IDPs that involves timely and responsive protection monitoring, capacity building for government, education mainstreaming and stakeholders, awareness-raising on SGBV, case management, and child protection.
The intervention aims to guarantee that all individuals-men, women, boys, and girls, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) and persons with disabilities-receive life-saving integrated responses, ensuring their safety within their communities and timely support in case of harm. GPON will deliver comprehensive services encompassing education in emergencies, child protection, gender-based violence (GBV), and protection coordination, advocacy, and information for the affected populations under First Emergency Response to the Displaced Population in Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina States, Northwest Nigeria funded by Education Cannot Wait and jointly implemented under consortium led by SCI. Job Overview/Summary
The position holder will support GPON Program Advocacy and Communication efforts to effect positive change for IDP and host communities through influencing decision-makers and individuals to change their policies and practices, attitudes or behaviour to address their needs as well as strategically amplify GPON’s work in line with respective donor projects and the organizational advocacy, visibility & communications strategy/guidelines.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Drafting, compiling, and editing communication products like newsletters, annual reports, and weekly updates
- Tracking media exposures and projects
- Developing audio-visual and visual materials, which may involve traveling
- Support to develop and implement program’s communication plans (internal and external) and activities according to GPON’s policy and guidelines, to promote urban program’s work.
- Work closely with the Advocacy and Communication Officer to provide support to project leads on the development, implementation and review of advocacy strategy and ensure high quality communication products that speak to GPON’s work.
- Provide technical support and advice to project staff and partners on advocacy and communication deliverables.
- Assist and support in communication of visits by the donor and other stakeholders so as to highlight work being done on the ground.
- Support to maintain a repository of high-quality photos of GPON’s work that can be used for amplifying the organization’s efforts to impact the lives of marginalized communities.
- Assist and support in developing social media content and support the Advocacy and Communication Officer in administering GPON’s social media platforms.
- Conduct regular field visit to areas of operation to document human interest stories, successes and impact of GPON’s work.
- Contribute to developing project information sheets, donor briefs, key messaging and other relevant material for use at strategic events, to promote and showcase impact of GPON’s work.
- Support to conduct advocacy & communication capacity development or training for staff and come up with an action plan for follow up.
- Assist to ensure that GPON’s brand guidelines and donor branding guidelines are adhered to during project implementation, procurement and external communication.
- Support GPON Project Managers and the Advocacy and Communications Manager during external representation when required to do so, budget management and donor reporting aligned to advocacy and communication deliverables.
- Facilitating a space for NGO collaboration and information sharing
- Representing GPON interests in external meetings and planning efforts
- Assisting with the branding and preparation of events
- Support in fundraising efforts by contributing in concept notes and proposal development in advocacy and communication framework & designs, including budgetary requirement elements.
Experience and technical competencies:
- Minimum 1 -2 years working in Social Media management, campaigning or communications field.
- Evidence of successful advocacy campaign preferably in issues around documentation of IDPs.
- Experience in building constructive working relationships with diverse stakeholders or working with networks or coalitions (work in urban refugee and host community context desirable).
- Demonstrable understanding of how change occurs and of effective advocacy and campaigning strategies including familiarity with online and social media campaigning.
- Sound understanding on the emergecnies context as well as willing and ability to adapt priorities in response to dynamic work demands.
- Strong planning, organization and problem-solving skills with ability to work both independently and within a team in a demanding working environment.
- Good analytical and strategic planning skills.
- Excellent camera handling skill
- Ability to communicate complex ideas simply; both verbally and through writing.

Education
- Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication, development studies or social science.
Language:
- Excellent/fluency in written and spoken English and Hausa

Salary and conditions: NGN 300,000 – NGN450,000. The income will be subject to statutory deductions as per applicable Nigeria laws. The employee is responsible for the tax returns.
