Core Responsibilities
As a Migration Specialist, you will be responsible for the seamless transition of workloads across diverse environments. Your day-to-day will include:
- Migration Execution: Leading end-to-end migration projects, specifically transitioning workloads from VM-to-VM (on-premise clusters) and VM-to-Cloud (Azure).
- Infrastructure Management: Maintaining and optimizing VMware vSphere environments, including vCenter, ESXi hosts, and storage integration.
- Cross-Platform Admin: Performing high-level administration for both Windows Server and Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu) environments.
- Patching & Maintenance: Managing enterprise-level batching and patching cycles to ensure all migrated and existing systems remain secure and compliant.
- Troubleshooting: Resolving complex virtualization performance issues and connectivity bottlenecks during the migration lifecycle.
- Process Compliance: Ensuring all technical changes and incident resolutions strictly adhere to ITIL framework standards, particularly Change and Configuration Management.
Required Skills & Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you’ll need a solid mix of virtualization expertise and OS-level grit:
- You must possess expert knowledge of VMware vSphere 7.x/8.x, vMotion, and SRM, alongside proven experience using migration tools such as VMware HCX, Carbonite, or native cloud migration suites. We require strong proficiency in Windows Server (Active Directory, GPO) and Linux (CLI, scripting), with the ability to handle batching and automated deployments through PowerShell and Ansible.
- Candidates must have hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and demonstrate strong knowledge of ITIL processes to ensure service delivery alignment.
Preferred Experience
- Relevant certifications such as VCP (VMware Certified Professional) or ITIL Foundation.
- Experience with hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) like vSAN.
- Background in large-scale data center consolidation projects.
