Purpose

  • We are seeking a Cloud Network Engineer with strong expertise in AWS, networking, and IT infrastructure to design, deploy, and manage a robust, secure, and scalable hybrid network environment which includes AWS and VMware Onprem. 
  • The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in network engineering (on-premises and cloud), managing AWS networking services, configuring Cisco devices, administering Linux systems, managing VPNs, pfSense firewalls, and working with ISPs to ensure optimal performance and uptime

Responsibilities of the Role
Cloud Networking (AWS):

  • Design, implement, and manage AWS networking components, including VPCs, subnets, NAT gateways, Transit Gateways, and Direct Connect.
  • Configure and maintain AWS security groups, NACLs, and route tables to ensure secure and efficient cloud communication.
  • Integrate on-premises infrastructure with AWS through hybrid connectivity solutions (VPNs, Direct Connect).
  • Monitor and troubleshoot AWS networking performance, including CloudWatch and other AWS tools.

Network Design and Management:

  • Design, implement, and maintain on-premises network infrastructure, including LAN/WAN, firewalls, routers, and switches (primarily Cisco).
  • Administer and maintain pfSense firewalls for routing, filtering, and load balancing.
  • Implement and manage secure VPN solutions for remote access and site-to-site communication.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues, including latency, packet loss, and misconfigurations.
  • Collaborate with ISPs to manage internet connections, troubleshoot outages, and optimize bandwidth usage.

System Administration (Linux):

  • Manage and monitor Linux servers to support network services, including DNS, DHCP, and proxy configurations.
  • Deploy, secure, and maintain network services (e.g., Nginx, Apache) and ensure high availability.
  • Automate network configurations and system tasks using Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages.

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  • Monitor and respond to network security events, ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct regular vulnerability scans and penetration tests on network systems.

Documentation and Collaboration:

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation for network topology, configurations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support infrastructure projects, application deployment, and troubleshooting.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior team members and other stakeholders.

Requirements of the Role
Required Skills:

  • Strong expertise in AWS networking services, including VPCs, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, and VPNs.
  • Solid understanding of Cisco networking concepts and experience with Cisco routers and switches.
  • Proficiency with pfSense firewalls for advanced routing, load balancing, and firewall management.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting VPNs (IPSec, OpenVPN, SSL VPNs).
  • Strong knowledge of Linux system administration, including network services.
  • Hands-on experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools (e.g., Wireshark, tcpdump, SolarWinds).
  • Familiarity with ISP management, including SLA negotiation and troubleshooting internet outages.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with network automation using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
  • Understanding of cloud and on-premises load balancing and DNS management.
  • Certifications such as AWS Certified Advanced Networking - Specialty, Cisco CCNP, or RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) are highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with DevOps workflows and CI/CD pipelines for network services.
