ZOA is an international relief and recovery organization supporting vulnerable people affected by violent conflicts and natural disasters in fragile states, by helping them to realize dignified and resilient lives. ZOA operates in more than 15 countries, in difficult locations where our field staff directly provides assistance to the most vulnerable victims of displacement. The countries in which ZOA is present are Afghanistan, Burundi, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Jordan, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Liberia, Myanmar, Philippines, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Uganda and Yemen. ZOA is active in insecure and volatile regions: serving Syrian refugees in the Middle East, uprooted people in war-torn South Sudan, displaced Yezidis in Northern Iraq and South Sudanese refugees in Ethiopia, to name a few.
About the job:
- The Communications Intern will work closely with the Program Quality and Project Teams to create content and to ensure alignment of communications, consistent messaging, and strong brand identity. The Intern will create multimedia content for project reporting and visibility. He/she will use ZOA Nigeria's communications channels to reach several different audiences and help increase ZOA Nigeria’s positioning for funding and influence. This includes stories, multimedia, and reports as required, as well as ensuring ZOA compliance with donor branding and marking requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Write, design, and produce creative and compelling communication and marketing material (Stories, photos, video, fact sheets, project briefs, brochures, etc.) for various audiences, including public and private donors, local and national governments, partners, media, and others as needed.
- Support the implementation of the country office communications plan.
- As appropriate, manage social media channels and create content platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local media and help identify opportunities to reach key audiences.
- Support the dissemination of relevant information among personnel, partners, and project participants or other relevant actors related to the CP.
- Provide marketing and communications support for events, including signage, handouts, talking points, photos, liaising with media, etc., and convene local media whenever ZOA’s event takes place.
- Support the creation of processes, manuals, and training for CP staff and partners on issues related to communications and multimedia.
Requirements:
- Minimum diploma in communications, Journalism, or related studies.
- Strong photography, writing and video editing skills and interest in the development and humanitarian sector.
- Excellent English language oral and written communication skills are required.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Premiere) or other multimedia creative applications is required.
- Good understanding of Core Humanitarian Standards, PSEA, and Accountability to Affected populations.
- Ability to operate as part of a team in a multi-cultural, value-driven work environment, and to perform tasks with sensitivity to local culture.
- Ability to manage own workload and deadlines, and maintain ethical and professional conduct
- Knowledge of spoken and or written Hausa and Kanuri is an added advantage.
- Willingness to travel within ZOA areas of operation. Travel up to 40 % is required.
