Basic Function

The Communications Officer will be responsible for managing VFN’s social media presence, developing compelling content, and ensuring effective communication strategies to amplify our advocacy efforts. The role requires creativity, strategic thinking, and strong digital communication skills to engage our audience and promote VFN’s mission.

Duties and Responsibilities

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with social media analytics and performance reporting.
  • Knowledge of graphic design and content creation tools.
  • Previous experience in advocacy, nonprofit communications, or community engagement.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of digital accessibility and inclusive communication.

Job Details

  • Manage and oversee the organization’s social media platforms, ensuring consistent branding and engagement.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies that align with VFN’s mission and advocacy goals.
  • Create, edit, publish, and share engaging content daily (e.g., original text, photos, videos, and news).
  • Develop and improve communication materials such as brochures, annual reports, newsletters, and digital media.
  • Interact with followers, respond to queries promptly, and monitor online discussions.
  • Design and manage VFN’s digital marketing campaigns, ensuring high levels of engagement and reach.
  • Maintain and update the organization’s website, ensuring accessibility and up-to-date information.
  • Stay informed about digital trends, social media algorithms, and innovative communication tools.
  • Organize and promote virtual and in-person advocacy campaigns and events.
  • Develop press releases and liaise with media partners to enhance VFN’s visibility.
  • Ensure high levels of web traffic and social media engagement through strategic content planning.
  • Monitor and analyze social media performance metrics, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Train and support VFN staff on effective communication strategies and social media best practices.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in managing social media accounts for nonprofit organizations is desirable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives.
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Photoshop) and video editing software is a plus.
  • Understanding of SEO, social media analytics, and digital marketing strategies.
  • Passion for women’s rights, social justice, and storytelling.
