Medecins Du Monde - For more than 30 years, Medecins Du Monde, a campaigning medical organisation committed to international solidarity, has been caring for the most vulnerable populations at home and abroad. It has continued to highlight obstacles that exist in accessing health care and has secured sustainable improvements in health-for-all policies. Those working for this independent organisation do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations. MdM currently works in 40 countries across all continents where it focuses on 4 priority areas: caring for the health of migrants and displaced persons, promoting sexual and reproductive health, combating HIV and reducing the harm and risks associated with drug use, crises and conflicts.

SUMMARY

Ensure the implementation of community mobilization activities and directly or indirectly lead/supervise local teams (MdM or partners).

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Planning and implementing capacity building activities
  • Training, providing technical supervision and advice to teams (MdM or partners) and community organisations 
  • Developing community dynamics, facilitating, and mediating
  • Identifying community organisations and/or the organisational potential of the community
  • Building and maintaining the relationship with the community
  • Involving the community in the design of programmes and activities
  • Evaluating the impact of activities on the community, improving knowledge, changing practices
  • Contributing to the development, review, and adaptation of tools
  • Contributing to needs’ assessments
  • Collecting information and data. Compiling, communicating, and participating in analyses
  • Drafting activity reports, contributing to the evaluation and capitalisation report
  • Contributing to advocacy work, promoting community issues and their acceptance
  • Management:
    • Managing and leading a team (information, setting objectives, monitoring activities, managing leave, recruitment, discipline, security, training, skills management)
    • Planning and monitoring activities and implementing corrective action where necessary
    • Advising, arbitrating, and supporting measures to be taken in the event of difficulties, malfunctions and/or incidents
       

SKILLS

  • Understand methods and tools to develop leadership, promote empowerment and strengthen the capacity of a community
  • Understand the theme (SRH, HR, MHPSH, PHC, etc.)
  • Good communication skills and public speaking skills. Ability to adapt behaviour to the target audience
  • Draft professional documents, organise, classify, communicate 
  • Build relationships, negotiate, develop, and maintain networks. Communicate information, know how to judge what information to share with whom
  • Assess the impact of actions and adjust them accordingly 
  • Understand the target audience (value systems, codes and practices, medical and medico-social issues, socio-economic and health environment), know how to understand a cultural context, create a bond of trust and how to incorporate that into activities
  • Being from the target community is considered an additional advantage for the job
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Be flexible and adaptable; understand and accept changes in the environment regarding people, tasks, work decisions, policies, etc.
  • Speak the language of the target audience 
  • Use distancing techniques
  • Management:
    • Take decisions and arbitrate
    • Define objectives and performance indicators
    • Organise, plan, and distribute the workload
    • Communicate
    • Assess and develop skills
