Head of Public Relations at Pulse NG

Pulse.ng is Nigeria's popular news platform online highlighting the entertainment, style, and news that are part of and the West African DNA.

We are launching a new Public Relations unit and are seeking a visionary and highly motivated Head of PR to lead it. We need a leader who will not only build and manage our PR service offering but also drive its growth by actively acquiring new clients and generating revenue. 

This is a leadership role reporting to the Director of Marketing with an entrepreneurial spirit and a deep understanding of how to translate Public relations outcomes into measurable business value, which requires demonstrating the tangible impact of public relations on business goals like revenue, leads and customer acquisition.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Unit Development:

  • Design, launch, and scale our new PR service offering from the ground up, defining its unique value proposition and service packages.
  • Develop a strategic roadmap for the PR unit, outlining its growth trajectory, service specialisations, and hiring needs.
  • Establish and maintain our agency's reputation as a leader in PR.
  • Mentor and build a high-performing PR team, fostering a culture of creativity, strategic thinking, and accountability.

Revenue Generation & Business Development:

  • Actively prospect, pitch and close new PR clients to meet and exceed ambitious revenue targets.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-selling PR services to our existing digital marketing clients.
  • Develop and present compelling, data-driven proposals that showcase the value and ROI of our PR strategies.
  • Build and maintain a strong professional network of media contacts, journalists, influencers and industry leaders in Nigeria and beyond.

Client Strategy & Management:

  • Serve as the primary strategic advisor for all PR clients, overseeing the development and execution of impactful public relations campaigns.
  • Ensure all PR activities from media relations to thought leadership and influencer engagement are integrated with our clients' broader marketing and business objectives.
  • Manage client relationships, expectations, and feedback to ensure high satisfaction and long-term retention.
  • Provide regular, insightful reports that clearly demonstrate the impact of PR on brand awareness, reputation and key business metrics.

Execution & Innovation:

  • Oversee the creation of all PR-related content, including press releases, media kits, pitches and executive-level communications, working closely with the creative team, strategy team and art directors.
  • Working closely with the strategy team, develop and implement strategies for crisis communications, media training and reputation management.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging platforms, and new technologies in the PR and media landscape, incorporating innovative tactics into our service offering.
  • Leverage SEO best practices to ensure all digital PR efforts contribute to improved search visibility and organic traffic for our clients.

Shared Services Responsibilities:

  • Provide support on selected projects and initiatives for Pulse Africa
  • Contribute to PR strategies, media relations and campaign planning for Pulse Africa-related projects where alignment is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in a senior public relations role, preferably within an agency environment.
  • Proven track record of driving revenue and leading business development or sales initiatives.
  • A strong portfolio of successful PR campaigns and a wide network of media contacts in Nigeria.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and pitches.
  • Deep understanding of the digital media landscape, including social media, SEO, influencer marketing, and content marketing.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, with experience in mentoring and managing a team.
  • Strategic, entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for building something from the ground up.
