We recruit Nigeria's most promising future leaders from varied disciplines to teach in Nigeria's underserved schools in low-income communities through a highly selective, two-year fellowship. The Teach For Nigeria fellowship is a transformational leadership program that equips Fellows with transferable leadership skills to effect change beyond the classrooms in the communities we serve. After the fellowship, alumni of Teach For Nigeria build on their classroom teaching experience to drive long-term systemic changes in the educational sector in Nigeria as they progress into leadership roles in their varied professions. The Teach For Nigeria model is based on the proven success of 40 country organizations including: Teach For America, Teach First UK, Teach For Ghana, Teach For Bangladesh, Teach For Nepal and Teach For India, who are all part of the Teach For All network.

Position Summary

  • Teach For Nigeria is seeking a strategic and forward-thinking IT professional to lead the organization’s technology operations.
  • This role is critical in ensuring the seamless operation and enhancement of our IT systems, supporting both our internal teams and broader organizational goals.
  • Additionally, this role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of IT, including network security, system architecture, data management, and technology solutions to support the organization's mission and objectives.
  • The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with the ability to develop and implement a robust IT strategy that aligns with our mission and ensures the sustainability and scalability of our technology infrastructure.
  • The Head of IT will ensure the effective integration of technology into our operations, providing strategic leadership and technology support to Teach For Nigeria employees, and overall position the company to be at the forefront of technological advancements.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities & Activities:

  • IT Strategy Development: Lead the creation and implementation of an IT strategy that supports the organization’s goals, including digital transformation initiatives.
  • Infrastructure Management: Oversee the management and optimization of all IT systems, ensuring they meet the needs of the organization while remaining secure and efficient.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor the IT team, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and accountability.
  • Vendor Management: Establish and maintain relationships with external IT service providers, ensuring high-quality service delivery and value for money.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure all IT operations comply with relevant laws and regulations, and implement security measures to protect sensitive data.
  • Project Management: Lead and manage IT projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet business requirements.
  • Technical Support: Oversee the provision of technical support to all staff, ensuring minimal downtime and swift resolution of IT issues.
  • Training & Development: Develop and implement training programs to enhance staff proficiency in using IT systems.
  • Collaborate with other departments to understand their IT needs and provide tailored solutions.
  • Monitor and assess emerging technologies to recommend and implement new systems and solutions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Sufficient knowledge across the key functional areas of information technology
  • Deep understanding of IT infrastructure, networks, and cybersecurity to ensure the security, reliability, and performance of IT systems and data.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to align IT initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for IT-enabled process improvement and automation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing IT challenges.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a high-performing IT team.
  • Ability to manage budgets.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Education, Experience & Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years experience in IT management, with at least 2 years in a managerial position.
  • Experience with IT infrastructure, cloud computing, cybersecurity, SaaS.
  • Relevant IT certifications.
  • Proven track record of involvement in the setup or scaling of an IT department.
