WANEP-Nigeria is the Nigerian Country Office of the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP), a Sub-regional NGO with regional secretariat based in Accra, Ghana, whose mission is to enable and facilitate the development of mechanisms for cooperation among civil society-based peacebuilding practitioners and organizations in West Africa by promoting cooperative responses to violent conflicts; providing the structure through which these practitioners and institutions will regularly exchange experience and information on issues of peacebuilding, conflict transformation, social, religious and political reconciliation; and promoting West Africa’s social and cultural values as resources for peacebuilding.

General Position Summary

  • The IT Officer is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of the organization’s IT infrastructure. This role requires technical expertise in managing computer systems, networks, and security protocols. The IT Officer will collaborate closely with the IT Officer in Lagos, PARTNER EWER Situation Room at IPCR, consortium members, including KSPC, PPBA, IPCR, BCPR, Mambayya House, and the Kukah Centre, as well as other relevant stakeholders as needed, to ensure seamless coordination and efficient IT services across all locations.
  • The IT Officer will support daily IT operations, troubleshoot technical issues, implement security measures, and maintain systems to ensure the continuity of the organization's activities.

Essential Job Responsibilities
System Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

  • Maintain computer systems and software to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to computers, software, and peripherals promptly.
  • Implement updates, patches, and repairs to maintain system integrity.

Network and Security Management:

  • Implement and monitor security measures to safeguard computer systems from viruses, malware, and unauthorized access.
  • Manage firewalls, antivirus programs, and other security tools.
  • Ensure that network infrastructure is properly configured and secured.

Database and Data Backup Management:

  • Manage and maintain the organization's database systems, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
  • Regularly perform data backups and recovery operations to protect against data loss.

User Support and Training:

  • Provide technical support and assistance to users experiencing computer-related issues.
  • Offer guidance and training to employees on the effective use of software and hardware.
  • Respond promptly to support requests and maintain detailed documentation of issues and resolutions.

Hardware and Software Evaluation:

  • Test and evaluate new hardware and software to determine their suitability for organizational use.
  • Recommend upgrades and new technology to improve IT operations.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Work closely with the IT Officer in Lagos to ensure consistency and continuity in IT services across all locations.
  • Collaborate with the PARTNER EWER Situation Room at the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) to ensure full efficiency and smooth IT operations.
  • Coordinate with other departments to understand their IT needs and provide tailored support.
  • Work with all PARTNER consortium members and agencies, including KSPC, PPBA, IPCR, BCPR, Mambayya House, Kukah Centre, and other relevant states and stakeholders as required, to ensure coordinated IT efforts and smooth running of IT systems.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of IT assets and inventory.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Secure network performance by conducting monitoring, analysis, and performance tuning.
  • Develop and implement network access control, security monitoring, and evaluation procedures.
  • Assist in disaster recovery operations and policy implementations.
  • Create and maintain an inventory of IT assets.
  • Advise management on IT-related issues and provide technical recommendations.
  • Ensure confidentiality of organizational data and assets.
  • Carry out relevant communication duties as may be recommended or instructed by the National Network Coordinator, Head of Programs, Chief of Party & Deputy Chief of Party.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.

Responsibility for Assets:

  • Responsible for the protection, conservation, and efficient utilization of WANEP’s ICT infrastructure and assets.
  • Manage the organization’s inventory of IT equipment and resources.
  • This position is crucial for maintaining the technological backbone of the organization and ensuring that all IT operations align with the organization’s goals and standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years or more progressive responsibility in the role.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, CCNA, etc.).
  • Proven technical knowledge of ICT policy and practical experience with a wide variety of ICT management strategies and tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and technical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in network administration and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
  • Ability to manage databases and perform data backup operations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and independently as needed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in all aspects.
