Network Support Engineer’s Job Description

  • Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure.
  • Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools.
  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability.
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes.
  • Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
  • Performing recurring support activities related to end-user workstations, telephony, and software for both local and remote users.
  • Break-fix of printing, scanning, server, and desktop hardware.
  • Provide 2nd and 3rd level support.
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
  • Investigating the current IT system, documenting user needs, and recommending improvements.
  • Designing system improvements and overseeing implementation.
  • Testing and repairing system faults.
  • Providing technical guidance and troubleshooting systems.
  • Monitoring systems to ensure efficient operation.
  • Provide technical support for ongoing system maintenance.
  • Perform software inventory, distribution, installation, and license management.
  • Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS).
  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations.
  • Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning.
  • Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure.
  • Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the company’s security team.

System/Network Engineer’s Job Requirements

  • BSc degree/HND in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related subject.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Users Support to assist clients on day-to-day in IT related functionality and efficiency.
  • Provides IT support for desktops, printers, peripherals, telephone systems, and cellular devices.
  • Configures, installs, and maintains complex software systems.
  • Identifies, manage, and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Responds to customer requests effectively and communicates with them to address issues or escalate internally as required.
  • Proven working experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows, UNIX /Linux based environments.
  • Solid networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP).
  • Manages projects successfully on time and within budget.
  • CompTIA A+ and Network+ Certification or equivalent experience is a must.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent English business language skills – both spoken and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with a variety of different teams.
  • Experience with virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMware, Virtual Box).
  • Solid Cloud experience in AWS and Azure.
  • Understanding of programming languages such as Javascript, Python, Scala or Java.
