Job Description

  • We are seeking an experienced Storage and Backup L2 Engineer to provide Level 2 support for our storage and backup infrastructure.
  • The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and troubleshooting storage systems and backup solutions to ensure data availability, protection, and recovery.

Key Responsibilities
Storage Management:

  • Administer and manage storage systems, including SAN (Storage Area Network) and NAS (Network Attached Storage) environments.
  • Monitor storage infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, capacity utilization, and availability.
  • Perform configuration, provisioning, and de-provisioning of storage resources based on business requirements.
  • Implement and maintain storage policies and procedures to support data retention, availability, and performance.

Backup Administration:

  • Oversee backup operations to ensure data is regularly and successfully backed up according to defined schedules.
  • Conduct routine backup testing and validation to confirm data recover-ability and integrity.
  • Troubleshoot backup failures and restore data as needed, coordinating with IT teams as required.
  • Ensure backup policies are aligned with disaster recovery and business continuity objectives.

Troubleshooting and Incident Resolution:

  • Provide Level 2 support for storage and backup-related incidents, diagnosing and resolving issues promptly.
  • Work with Level 1 support to handle escalated storage and backup tickets and provide technical guidance.
  • Engage with Level 3 or vendor support teams for complex issues that require escalation.

Performance Monitoring and Optimization:

  • Utilize monitoring tools to track storage and backup system performance, identifying and addressing potential bottlenecks.
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews to identify opportunities for system optimization and efficiency improvements.
  • Implement performance tuning techniques to maximize the efficiency of storage and backup resources.

Security and Compliance:

  • Enforce data security protocols to protect sensitive data, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Manage access control for storage systems, ensuring only authorized personnel have access.
  • Participate in security and compliance audits, providing relevant data and documentation.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate documentation of storage and backup configurations, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare regular reports on storage usage, backup success rates, and capacity planning forecasts.
  • Document incident response steps and resolutions for future reference.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in storage and backup administration, with at least 1-2 years in an L2 support capacity.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as EMC, NetApp, or Commvault certifications are a plus.

Skills and Competencies:
Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of storage technologies, including SAN, NAS, and DAS.
  • Proficiency in storage management tools and backup software (e.g., NetBackup, Commvault, Veeam, EMC, or IBM Spectrum).
  • Familiarity with storage protocols, such as iSCSI, Fibre Channel, and NFS.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery best practices, retention policies, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Experience with monitoring tools and storage management platforms.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex storage and backup issues.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with IT and business teams.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
