Wellspring University is a private university promoted by Management Science Centre and approved by the Federal Government. It operates on Christian ethics and principles.
The vision of the university is to mould the new Nigerian who will have the intellectual knowledge and moral strength for applying science and technology to the piloting of national development.
In 1983, a group of academics and professionals came together in Lagos under the name, Management Science Centre, to render consultancy and training services to the teeming population of working men and women who had the common problem of inability to leave their employments to undertake full-time tertiary education.
The Centre commenced operations on a modest scale with the private coaching of students of the University of Lagos Correspondence and Open Studies Institute (COSIT), later renamed Distant Learning Institute (DLI).
By 1995, the modest foundation of 1983 had brought Management Science Centre into joint relationships with several institutions of higher learning in Nigeria, among which are the Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State; University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State and Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State.
Our achievements in the programmes undertaken gave rise to a desire for expansion in order to contribute optimally to the development of education in Nigeria. The result was the establishment of Wisdom Gate High School in 2001 and Wellspring College in 2003, both secondary schools of international standard that placed great emphasis on moral upbringing. Then in 2006, the Centre established the Cornerstone College of Education in Lagos.
The motive of serving as a Centre of learning where Nigerian children, who are hungry for university education that is based on sound moral and spiritual principles, can accomplish their ambitions has always been the core of our vision. Thus, after more than twenty five years of serving the education sector, Management Science Centre considered itself strong enough to establish a full-fledged university.
To the glory of God, Wellspring University (WU) was licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria in November 2009. WU is founded on Christian principles and ethics. WU is committed to providing quality education that will impact on the intellect and morals of its students.
The dream of the founders of WU is for it to become a world class institution, capable of delivering locally and globally relevant university education. This dream came to fruition in 2011 when WU joined the league of international universities offering cross border university education. In August 2011, WU signed an MOU with the famed Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana, to run joint international degree programmes. WU's collaboration with KNUST is under the auspices of the National Universities Commission (NUC), through its Pilot Scheme on Cross Border University Education.
This landmark achievement makes WU one of the first Nigerian universities that will be awarding joint international degrees. We give glory to our Lord!
WU and KNUST are committed to using the latest and the best in technology and teaching principles and methods to produce God-fearing world leaders in science, technology, business and the arts.
